For the second year in a row a Walton-area girl has been named as Huron County’s Queen of the Furrow. Leanne Whitmore, RR 4, Walton was crowned by last year’s Queen Heather McGavin, also of RR 4, Walton, at the 1990 Huron County Walton Compiled by Mrs. Betty McCall. Richard Love has returned to Barry University to complete his third year. Neil McDonald of Vancouver visited relatives and friends in the area. We are glad to hear Margaret Craig was able to return home from Clinton Hospital on Saturday after a few days rest. Robbie Shortreed returned home this past Wednesday. He had been away for 70 days this summer, looking after six percheron horses owned by Dr. McKenzie, London. They took in several fairs, travell­ ing different places in Canada and the States. Leanne, who has competed in regular plowing competition in the past, gave her speech on hunger. Joan Beuermann, Stratford visit­ ed with her mother Isabelle Short­ reed, Thursday evening, Scott Beuermann and friend of Stratford called on his grandmother, Sunday. WI meeting changed The Walton Women’s Institute September meeting has been changed to the second Wednesday for this month. Women in the Environment is the topic with conveners on Citizenship and Leg­ islation in charge. Ms. Whitmore will represent Huron at the 1991 International Plowing Match. Ms. McGavin will represent the county at the upcom­ ing 1990 International in Brant county. Worship services resumed Sun­ day morning at Duff’s United Church following the minister’s holidays. Greeters were Neil and Marie McGavin. Organist was Glenda Carter. Offering was received by Doug Fraser and Neil McGavin. Liz Lamble read the “Minute for Mission’’. In the announcements, dates to remember were on the bulletin. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 8 p.m. is the U.C.W. meeting with guest speak­ er Clare Geddes, Chaplain of the Bluewater Centre. Thurs., Sept. 6, from 7 - 8 p.m. is choir practice for both senior and junior members. Next Sunday evening is the official board meeting at the home of Dorothy Sholdice. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 1 p.m. is a colouring bee for Sunday School Materials at Gloria Wilbee’s. All those who have offered to help from the U.C.W. units are reminded to attend. PeeWee girls win Congratulations to the Walton Pee Wee girls ball team who won the “B” Championship Division at the Walton Park Thursday evening. They won over Wingham 13 - 7 in the final game.
