The trophy was donated in honour of the founder of the Brussels club, the late Frank Carter. Winners were: Jack and Audrey McDonald, Lucknow, three wins 44 plus two; second, Lee Ryan and Grace Short, Goderich, three wins 42 plus one; third, Tom and Mary Ellen Emery, London, two wins 43) fourth, Gordon Bosman and Elda Coultes, two wins 42 plus five; fifth, Margaret Montgomery and partner, Aylmer, two wins 41 plus one; sixth, Don and Lois Haines, Clinton, two wins 39; seventh, Doug and Thelma Kidd, Atwood, two wins 38; eighth, Don and Edna MacTavish, Lucknow, two wins 34; ninth Jim Bowman and Jean Bew­ ley, Brussels, two wins 34; 10th Harris and Lois Bell, Elora, two wins 27; Consolation, Reg Robin­ son and Frances Tuer, Mitchell. The next tournament in Brussels will be Sept. 6 starting at 1:30 p.m. September is Arthritis month and the annual campaign for funds will be held as usual in Brussels with volunteers calling at your door, asking for your help and providing information. If no one has called on you by October 1 and you wish to help, plea.se call Jean Bewley, co-ordinator, 887-9047 and she will arrange to pick up your donation. Mrs. Adah Smith spent last week in Toronto with her son Donald and his wife Mary. We are sorry to hear that Mary passed away Sunday evening. Bob and Larry Smith and other relatives attended a Memor­ ial Service for Mary on Tuesday evening at Bloor Street United Church. Donald Smith called on his mother this Saturday on his way home to Thunder Bay. Brussels Reeve Gordon Workman proved to be one politician who couldn’t hit the nail right on the head in the nail driving contest at the Huron County Plowing Match near Varna Friday. Reeve Workman showed plenty of drive but the nail decided to go elsewhere than into the block of wood and ricocheted to the left of the picture. Cadets looking for new recruits for season BY SANDRA JOSLING As school returns in the fall so does the Brussels Legion Cadet Corp. The cadets meet every Tuesday evening at the Brussels Legion HaM from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This year’s leaders will be Cap­ tain Stuart Parker; Lieutenant John Grobbo; Second Lieutenant Jody Boynton; Officer Cadet, Linda Bird and Civilian Instructors Lisa Gland- ville and Francis Smith.
