Ushers were Fred, Linda, Heidie and Laura Meier. George Cowan opened the ser­ vice with prayer followed by hymn “Unto the Hills around do I lift up”. Responsive reading Psalm I. The children’s hymn was “Come let us sing of the wonderful love” which was also the theme of Mr. Cowan’s story. A beautiful bouquet of gladioli from Charlie Smith’s garden decorated the altar. Nominations sought for Literacy Volunteer awards As part of International Literacy Year 1990, Canada’s Literacy Vol­ unteer Awards program has been designed to identify and honour volunteers and organizations throughout the community who have made a significant contribu­ tion to the field of literacy in Canada. Information and Nomination forms are available from your local public library - a key participant in the administration of this program. Up to 50 Certificates of Apprecia­ tion will be presented by Murray Cardiff for the riding of Huron- Bruce to the selected recipients at award ceremonies to be held this fall. To be included in the selection process, Nomination Forms must be returned to the library prior to September 30, 1990. This program is sponsored by the Government of Canada, the Asso­ ciation pour l’avancement des sciences et des techniques de la documentation and the Canadian Library Association with two of its divisions - the Canadian Associa­ tion of Public Libraries and the Canadian Libraries Trustees Asso­ ciation. Nomination forms are available at all branches of the Huron County Library. The choir sang “Gentle Shep­ herd Come and Lead Us”, accom­ panied by Phyllis Boak followed by “O Master let me walk with Thee” and prayer. Mr. Cowan’s sermon was “Greed and Obsession of Power” and he quoted from Matthew 24 and 18. He also gave a brief report on the general council and Com­ munity of Concern. The hymn “Lead on oh King Eternal” was sung. Since this was Mr. Cowan’s last Sunday, he sang a beautiful solo “Bless This House” followed by benediction and “God Loves You”. Rev. ALL VISITORS WELCOME BROOKS - KERR A perfect summer day on July 7, 1990 witnessed the marriage of Brenda “Nicole” Brooks, daughter of Mac and Brenda to “Paul” Allan Kerr, son of Gerald Kerr, all of Blyth. Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez offi­ ciated at the ceremony in Blyth United Church. The bride given in marriage by her parents, wore a white satin mermaid gown with Queen Victoria neckline. Iridescent sequins and pearls accented the bodice, sleeves and neckline. The chapel train featured satin bows and scalloped lace along the edging. She carried a crescent shaped bouquet of bridal white roses, meranta leaves, ivy and coral bells. The groom wore a Bud Gowan 3-piece white tuxedo with a white rose in the lapel. Maid-of-honour was Faren Feasy of Strathroy. Her gown was pansy purple satin with large puff sleeves and V peplum from waist. The bridesmaids, Annette Lucas, Karen Van Soest and Melissa Ken- all of Blyth, wore identical dresses to the maid of honour. Flower girl, Lindsey Bartliff of Clinton, cousin of the bride, wore a white satin gown with satin bows. A halo of fresh baby breath adorned her head. All the girls carried hand bouquets of hot pink mini carnations, pink tulle, accent­ ed with ribbon streamers and purple statice. Ringbearer was Mark Fisher of Port Stanley, cousin of the groom. He was dressed identical to the groom in white tux and carried a white satin pillow decorated with mini carnations and streamers. The mother of the bride was escorted into the church by her son, Brent. She was wearing a two-piece cherry satin gown and matching hat. Her corsage consisted of three white baby roses with lace bow. Best man for the occasion was Randy Pentland of Dungannon. Ushers were Steve Howson, Brent Brooks and Mike Kerr, all of Blyth. The guys wore matching light grey tuxes with purple cummerbunds. The bride’s father looked dashing in med grey tux with matching cummerbund. Brent Brooks and Darren Bartliff lit the beautifully decorated candelabra at the front of the church. Organist was Phyllis Boak and Cheryl Cronin sang two lovely pieces, “To-gether” and “O Per­ fect Love”. A delicious roast beef dinner was served by the Blyth Women’s Institute in the Blyth Community Centre. Dancing followed with music supplied by “Sound Proof” - D.J. - Calvin Kerr. Special guests were Earl and Agnes Dixon, Buffalo, Minnesota, who were Nicole’s Lions’ Youth Exchange parents for one summer. Also great Aunt Vi Cooper of Clinton. Master of Ceremonies was Mark Kennedy of Clinton, the bride’s uncle. The bride and groom honey­ mooned in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic and are now residing in Blyth happily. PLANQUES-STEPHENSON Bill and Joan Stephenson are pleased to announce the engagement of their daugh­ ter, Kim to Bob, son of Ray and Joyce Planques of Lon­ don.
