The plane had once been on display at the airport before being restored to flying condition. The event also marked the opening of the new runway at the airport. Playhouse reports successful season As the end of the 1990 summer season draws near and box office statistics are tallied, it appears that the current year at Huron Country Playhouse will be one of the best on record. Average attendance for the four main stage productions, “Ten Lit tle Indians’’, “Gypsy”, “Boeing Boeing” and “Annie Get Your Gun”, should climb over the 90 per cent mark by September 1, when the final curtain comes down on “Annie Get Your Gun” and the Playhouse’s 19th season. It has not been uncommon at Huron Country Playhouse for musicals to average over 80 per cent attendance, but it is unusual for a whole season, musicals and non-musicals, to produce the kind of attendance figures of the current season. CN considers 4 bids for rail line sale The sale of the CN rail line from Goderich to Stratford, which brought inquiries from 40 possible buyers, is down to four bidders who are now being considered by CN. Ken White, CN regional mana ger of business planning, says the railway company is looking for a professional, well-financed mana ger for the line, which primarily hauls salt out of Goderich, and fertilizer into the Hensall District Co-op. Mr. White says the sale is part of CN’s plan to condense its overall operation to a high-density main line system, fed by a small locally- operated short-line system. Mr. White says having short-line railroads owned and managed by local operators has made for a more efficient system in the United States, and is a system CN is implementing. The four remaining bidders are Ann Arbor Acquisition Corpora tion, Essex Morterm Holdings Limited, Huron Transportation Group, and Rail Tex Inc. Their bids were made Aug. 15, but are not yet a matter of public record. Mr. White says a local operator of the line should result in better service for its users, adding “we believe this will be a successful sale.’’ His words offer reassurance to Huron County Council members who have voiced fears that if no buyer is found CN could phase out rail service. CN announced March 1, 1990 that it would sell the 112 km. of track on the Goderich to Stratford line and its spur connecting Clinton with Centralia.
