Brussels People On target Team mates Les Cook and Debbie Cann of Brussels take a practice shot at the Brussels Legion Dart Tournament on Sunday. Brussels Legion members: Ernie and Cathy Hackock and Andy and Marg Adams were the winning team, while a couple from Cambridge won the doubles competition. Brussels Legion makes donations Winnie Conaboy of Cochrane, Alberta and Bob and Jeannette McCutcheon of North Vancouver visited with friends and relatives in Brussels and attended the 35th wedding anniversary party of Jack and Esther McCutcheon. Well, the students of Brussels Public School will be returning to those hallowed halls this Tuesday. As usual summer holidays sped by at a rapid pace and now youngsters and parents will be keeping busy preparing for back to school. There will be several faces not returning to the school this year, but several new faces will be taking their place. Principal Jim Axtmann has retired and filling his shoes this year is Dave Kemp, formerly principal of Hensail Public School. Mr. Kemp is a resident of Clinton. Lynne Henry, who has been teaching Kindergarten at Brussels for three years will be at Grey Central this year, while Cathy Elliott has taken over the responsi­ bilities of vice-principal at Exeter. Area resource teacher Pat Barnes is taking a one-year leave of absence. Phil Parsons will be returning full-time to Brussels School as he has concluded his duties as Presi­ dent of the Huron District, Ontario Public School Teachers’ Federa­ tion. New staff members are: Denise Nethery, who will be teaching Kindergarten; Mr. Bill Teall, the Grade 4/5 teacher and Mr. Dave Higgins, the Area Resource Teach­ er. _______ Village of Brussels THIRD PAYMENT OF TAXES DUE SEPT. 4, 1990 B. REGISTRATION BRUSSELS PLAYSCHOOL CREATIVE PLAY FOR 3&4YR.OLDS Call Barb Mutter 887-6117 [a few openings left] BY SANDRA JOSLING During the August 20 executive meeting of the Brussels Legion, donations were made from the Nevada account to the Highland Fusiliers of Canada, a Canadian Forces Militia sub-unit in Wing­ ham. $200 was donated to erect a fence to house vehicles to cut down on vandalism. Also $118 was donated to the Brussels Public School for track and field medallions. $50 each was donated to the Children’s Aid Society of Huron County and the Amyotro­ phic Lateral Sclerosis Society. On Sunday, Sept. 9 there will be a Zone C-l Convention at Branch 156 Seaforth. There will be a parade at 1 p.m. All veterans are urged to attend it possible. Joan Miller leads service Joan Miller was worship leader for the Sunday Service at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. Anna Hemmendinger from Kit­ chener who works with refugees for the Mennonite Central Committee gave the message. She stressed the importance of crossing cultural boundaries to develop relation­ ships. In the afternoon and evening the Church family gathered at Martin’s Recreation Afea for a corn roast as a “Welcome Horde” party for the Greenwood family who have been travelling extensively around the world the last few months.
