LOL 1W0. 32-lp CFFO wants tax rebate changed Changing the rationale of Ontario’s Farm Property Tax Re bate (FPTR) Program has become a long term goal for the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO). The Stewardship and Policy Committee of CFFO has drafted a statement that would turn the $150 million program into a stewardship payment program. Earlier this year the Federation’s Provincial Board adopted a policy statement that recommends the introduction of new eligibility criteria into the rebate program so that after five years each eligible farm will need to have a land stewardship plan. That proposal was submitted to the Farm Tax Rebate Program Review Committee. The CFFO has expressed disappointment that the report of the Review Committee focused narrowly on the benefit principle for the existing program. ‘‘The Review Committee’s re port is helpful in understanding the history of the Farm Property Tax Rebate Program but seriously flaw ed as a basis for rural/agricultural property tax rebates in the 1990s,” says the statement prepared by the CFFO Stewardship Committee. ‘‘The review ignores an impor tant original basis for the rebate - low farm family incomes compared to other families,” the CFFO Committee says. “That problem no longer exists.” The review is seriously flawed in its interpretation of the benefit principle as it applies to agricultur al land and farm buildings, accord ing to the CFFO Committee. #30 MOHAWK CRES.
