Brussels Bulls have successfully completed their final year in Jr. C. hockey and have named their 1990-91 coaching staff. Head Coach Scott Pettagrew, a Wingham newscaster has been involved in both playing hockey for the New Hamburg Jr. C and coaching in Wingham. Scott has named three assistant coaches. Hugh Hanly of Brussels, the town’s clerk, who played his hockey in Goderich. Hugh coached the Brus­ sels Bantams last year and brings a good hockey knowledge to the Bulls. Tim Fritz, a Brussels native who Gibson trophy awarded The Gibson Trophy Competition for the local Brussels lawn bowling members was held July 17. Three games were played in lovely summer weather. The re­ sults were as follows: first, Gordon Bosman and Ross Turvey, three wins, 36; second. Les Douglas and Helen Martin, two wins, 43; third, George Inglis and Ida Evans, two wins. 42; fourth, Jean Bewley and Viola Kirkby, two wins, 41; Conso­ lation, Clarence Hanna and Mabel Wheeler. On July 22 the Brussels Lawn Bowling Club held their trebles plaved all his junior hockey with the Brussels Bulls, brings hockey knowledge along with his good team leadership. Mike Chapman is a Listowel lad who also played several years with the Bulls. Like Tim, Mike also has great leadership and ability. Steve Coulter takes on the man­ ager’s job for the third year. This year’s Bulls begin training camp on Saturday, August 25 from 7 - 10 at Listowel arena. Lacing up the skates again on Sunday, Aug. 26 from 2-5 at Listowel, then the Bulls will go again Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 10 - 11. tournament with 60 bowlers taking part. The weather was still hot and dry. Coming first was Walter West­ brook’s trio with three wins and 48 plus of three; second, Jack Trelea- ven, Lucknow, three wins and 48; third, Len Brubacker, Elmira, three wins and 40; fourth, Jack Brough­ ton, Atwood, two wins and 47; fifth, Don Haines, Clinton, two wins and 42; sixth, Reg Robinson, Mitchell, two wins and 39; seventh, Vera Linder, Atwood, two wins and 37; eighth, Gerald Gibson, Brus­ sels, two wins and 36; ninth, Oliver Pryce, Seaforth, two wins and 26., The next weekend the Bulls are at Listowel on Saturday, Sept. 1 from 7 - 9 and Sunday, Sept. 2 from 2 - 4. All of these dates are open so anyone wishing to play Jr. C hockey, feel free to try out. Manager Coulter has scheduled five exhibition games starting Sept. 9 at Listowel arena with Brussels Bulls Jr. C vs. Listowel Cyclones Jr. B at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 it’s Goderich vs. Brussels (in Listowel) at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, Brussels at Goderich, 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, Brussels at Mt. Forest (Ayton), 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, Mt. Forest at Brussels (Listowel), 2 p.m. The main attraction will be to see how the Bulls do against the Jr. B Cyclones. This year’s schedule will start Oct. 5 as the Bulls start their early season road trips to Orangeville, the 1989-1990 Jr. C All-Ontario Champions. The Bulls will play a 30 game schedule with a Home and Home series with Orangeville, Fergus and Acton. Brussels home opener will be Sunday, Oct. 14 against the Mt. Forest Patriots at 2 p.m. Manager Coulter has talked to Bob Beuttmiller, President of the Seaforth Jr. D hockey club, about possibly being the Bulls Jr. D. affiliated team.
