Organist was Mrs. Elinor Neill, Wingham who accompanied the soloist Miss Julie McCall, Brussels who sang “Right Here Waiting’’, “The Rose’’ and “Let it Be Me’’. The bride wore a traditional satin gown with a fitted bodice of sequins and pearls with a cathedral train. She carried a cascading bouquet which consisted of red roses, stephanotis, pearls and trail ing ivy. The matron of honour was Lynda Smith of Brussels, friend of the party which adheres to Christian values and morals. It started as an off-shoot of the pro-life movement three years ago, according to Mr. Lalonde and ran candidates in 32 ridings, including Bruce, in the 1987 provincial election. Although no date for a nomina tion meeting has been set, Mr. Lalonde said several people have expressed an interest in running for the party in the upcoming provincial election. Greeters at Blyth United Church for the July 29 service were Kathy McNichol and Fred Howson. Ush ers were Jack Wharton and Doug Ho watt. In the absence of Rev. Ramirez, who is holidaying in the Philip pines, Harvey Snell was in charge of the service. Hymns were “Come let us sing of a Wonderful Love” and “Saviour, like a Shepherd Lead Us”. Scripture readings were from John 3: 16-21 and Titus 2: 11-15. Other readings of scripture were Jeremiah 23: 5-6 and Romans 4: 17-25 to support the message entitled “Righteousness by Faith”. Mr. Snell pointed out that our salvation depends upon whether or not we believe in Jesus, quoting John 3: 18 “He that believeth in HIM is not condemned, but he that believeith not is condemned al ready.” The question was asked “Why is it that many people fail to turn to Jesus, and believe in Him for their salvation?” The answer is found in verses 19 and 20 “This is the condemnation, that Light is come into the world and men loved darkness rather than Light because their deeds were evil”. Many people love their sinful pleasures more than Jesus, and simply do not want to give them up. Mr. Snell said the world’s pro blems are the result of men’s disobedience and unfaithfulness to God, and that God sent His righteous Son into this unrighteous home bride. Bridesmaids were Sheila Gulutzen, Brussels; Jennifer Moore, Molesworth, friends of the bride and Heather Dustow, Kitch ener, cousin of the bride. They wore black and white off the shoulder cocktail dresses with full skirts. They carried bouquets simi lar to the bride. The flower girl was Michelle Smith, Brussels, niece of the groom and ring bearer was Blair Smith, Brussels, nephew of the groom. The best man was Brad Smith, Brussels, cousin of the groom. Ushers were Bruce Fischer, Cran- brook, friend of the groom; Kevin Johnston, Bluevale, brother of the bride; and Kevin Pennington, Brussels, friend of the groom. They wore white tuxedoes with a boutonniere of a red rose. The reception was held at Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Cen tre. Jeff and Karen reside at RR 3, Brussels. Special guests were the bride’s grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Ste wart, Ripley and the groom’s grandmothers, Isabel England of Lucknow and Mabel Smith of Brussels. It was God’s love for us sinners that He sent His son, in hope that we would turn from our sinful way of life and believe in Him for our salvation. Mr. Snell said, Jesus Christ is the only way through which we can be saved: The way of Righteous ness. When we are willing to turn from our sinful ways, and turn to Jesus, putting our faith in Him to help us overcome sin, Jesus re wards us with righteousness. Mr. Snell said “We must be willing to put our old sinful life to death, and take on the new life in Christ. As we experience the power of Christ to change our life we gain the assurance of our salvation, giving us a peace and joy that only those who know Him as Saviour and Lord can have.” Mr. Snell cited the scandlous reports concerning the leaders and teachers of different church organ izations as bringing much disgrace and dishonour to God’s House. Many have turned their back on the churches for this reason, that religion is not producing the fruit of righteous living. Mr. Snell said that unrighteous living is the result of false teaching, giving examples from quotes of some of our church’s theology professors. If only we would put our faith in the Word of God, Christ Jesus, we would discover Him as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. To insure we are not led astray by false teaching we must spend much time in prayerful study of God’s Word. We need to learn that faithful obedience to God is the only way to obtain the righteousness of God which is by faith. Blessed are they Melville Presbyterian Church BRUSSELS Rev.
