He said his experience working at Queen’s Park for four years with Mr. Riddell made him decide to try his hand at provincial rather than federal politics. Also, he said, provincial politics seems to be closer to the grassroots and he enjoys the aspect of getting out and mixing with local people. He said he thought his experi ence at Queen’s Park would give him a head start if he did win the nomination and the election that is widely predicted for this fall, because he got to know how to get things done in the big bureacracy HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION OF ONTARIO Improving pour odds against Canada's *1 killer. He predicted it would be a battle for the Liberals to hold the riding with the retirement of Mr. Riddell, noting the strong Conservative tradition in the area. He touched on some of the areas of problems in the riding, from farmer’s difficulties with free trade to the abandonment of railways and closing of post offices but said many of these problems lie in federal jurisdiction. One thing that the province can do to counteract these problems is to get more involved in rural development, he said, something Mr. Riddell had been trying to develop in recent months. There is plenty of room for small, clean industry in the riding, he said, and the attractive lifestyle should make it an attractive place for people to live.
