BY JOHN RAMIREZ AND
STEPHANIE LENTZ
John: Good Evening!
Stephanie: And welcome to all!
John: We are the Valedictorians
and we are here to say farewell, as
vale means “farewell” and dico
means “I say”.
Stephanie: Vale, also the impera
tive of valere meaning to be well or
strong. Which describes us to a
“t” as we leave Grade 8, being
well and strong in mind and body
... hopefully.
John: An example of this was when
Mr. Hooftman told us he could
show us an unforgettable way of
remembering when dividing frac
tions to “flip” the second fraction.
Stephanie: So when he asked for a
volunteer, our unsuspecting Brian
Machan, rose for what he thought
would be an assistant to write on
the board, but no sirrreeee!, poor
Brian stood in front of our teacher
and was flipped completely upside
down with the most astonished look
on his face in front of the whole
class.
John: And what we learned was
that things aren’t always what they
seem to be. This was also the same
in learning.
Stephanie: We not only learned
facts and figures, but also different
ways of thinking:
John: In Math and Guidance with
Mr. Sygrove.
Stephanie: In Science with Mrs.
Hulley.
