The information is easily access ible and the telephone system a reliable form to use, according to Dr. Bokhout. They will continually monitor the program to see if improvements or changes need to be made. “As is the case with a new program it will take time to figure out what works well.’’ A 100 per cent grant from the Ministry of Community and Social Services funded the project. The on-going grant of $127,000 is subject to review. Dr. Bokhout said that in the future another agency may be better equipped to take over the program. David Harvey, Program Super visor of the Ministry complimented the health unit on their efforts. He stated that when he began with the Ministry in 1979 Huron County was a leader in this area and now the tradition continues. He said that Wilder and Graeme MacDonald all came forward when Mr. Vanstone cut the ribbon to open the library. PEOPLE Howard Mitchell, Thorold, is spending a while at his house in Cranbrook. Mr. Harvey also emphasized that anyone can use the service, noting the many frustrated families who are trying to deal with parents or others and they can tap into the line as well. Dr. Bokhout sees the information service as part of a long-term care reform forum that is presently well underway. This forum enables people to stay in the community for as long as possible. “It fits into the larger picture,’’ he says. He sees the program as the first step in helping to co-ordinate acitivities and make that knowledge available for people who can link to make the linkage easier. Ms. Brown plans to start looking at transportation needs in the county, something she feels is a concern. For the present, pressurized stickers are available with the number listed on it for more convenient access. Also Ms. Brown says she is willing to visit organiza tions or groups to discuss the information service with them. The service will be listed in all new telephone directories in both the white and the blue pages under municipal government. For infor mation call in Clinton: 482-5666 or toll free 1-800-267-0535.
