Soccer team wins 3, loses 1 With minor soccer becoming more popular, the new “North Huron Soccer League’’ has been born. Boys and girls ages 11-12 on teams from Blyth, Clinton, Goder­ ich, Lucknow and Wingham are competing against each other in an eight game season. Blyth’s first game was against Goderich on June 4. Goderich scored early and continued to control the game. At half time, Blyth regrouped and came out on a better foot. With a good effort from our squad Blyth came out with a 5-2 loss. Kurt Lentz scored the first goal and Brad Anderson got a nice pass from Toni Richmond to score the second goal. On June 14, Blyth travelled to Lucknow and enjoyed a better game. Blyth had control of the game right from the start. Brad Anderson scored twice, Kurt Lentz got one and Terry Pardys scored on a penalty kick. Shawna Walker and Jeff Cowan came up with assists. Brussels dominated play but was foiled again and again by Wallace’s strong defence. Nolan Krotz finally broke through in the dying seconds of the first half to put Brussels ahead 1-0. Wallace scored midway through the second half to tie the score. Brussels’ record now stands at one win, one loss and a tie. ATOMS The Brussels Atoms played New­ ton and came out on the wrong end of a 7-1 score. Newton scored twice before Terry Nichol scored on a penalty kick to bring Brussels within one at the end of the first half. It was all Newton in the second half as they scored five unanswered goals despite some fine saves by Mathew Snyder. The Atoms’ re­ cord now stands at one win and two losses. In the first inning, Michael Marks, Robbie McGee, Jeremy Campbell, Jamie McCallum, Craig Marks and Jason Howatt, each got a run. In the second inning only one run was brought in by Tom Pfeiffer and the third inning two runs by Jamie McCallum and Craig Marks. Jason McBurney and Tom Pfeif­ fer each got a run in the fourth inning while Jeremy Campbell and Jamie McCallum each got a run in the fifth. Belgrave ended the game in the sixth inning with runs brought in by Michael Marks, Justin Campbell, Jeremy Campb- bell, Craig Marks, Ryan Cook, Tom Pfeiffer and a home^run by Jamie McCallum. This was a well played game by all the boys. Anyone wishing to help cheer these youngsters on is welcome to come out on Thursday, June 28 at 7 p.m. when Wroxeter will come to Belgrave to play.
