Soccer team wins 3, loses 1
With minor soccer becoming
more popular, the new “North
Huron Soccer League’’ has been
born. Boys and girls ages 11-12 on
teams from Blyth, Clinton, Goder
ich, Lucknow and Wingham are
competing against each other in an
eight game season.
Blyth’s first game was against
Goderich on June 4. Goderich
scored early and continued to
control the game. At half time,
Blyth regrouped and came out on a
better foot. With a good effort from
our squad Blyth came out with a 5-2
loss. Kurt Lentz scored the first
goal and Brad Anderson got a nice
pass from Toni Richmond to score
the second goal.
On June 14, Blyth travelled to
Lucknow and enjoyed a better
game. Blyth had control of the
game right from the start. Brad
Anderson scored twice, Kurt Lentz
got one and Terry Pardys scored on
a penalty kick. Shawna Walker and
Jeff Cowan came up with assists.
Goal keeper, Gregory Blok played a
good game but lost the shutout as

The Brussels minis soccer team
hosted Wallace last week and held
them to a 1-1 draw.
Brussels dominated play but was
foiled again and again by Wallace’s
strong defence. Nolan Krotz finally
broke through in the dying seconds
of the first half to put Brussels
ahead 1-0. Wallace scored midway
through the second half to tie the
score. Brussels’ record now stands
at one win, one loss and a tie.
ATOMS
The Brussels Atoms played New
ton and came out on the wrong end
of a 7-1 score. Newton scored twice
before Terry Nichol scored on a
penalty kick to bring Brussels
within one at the end of the first
half.
It was all Newton in the second
half as they scored five unanswered
goals despite some fine saves by
Mathew Snyder. The Atoms’ re

losses.
