Area family hosts special Japanese visitors George and Elizabeth Procter of RR 5, Brussels recently enjoyed a visit from a very special guest. Fujihiko Yoshino of Japan, who spent time with the Procters 23 years ago on an agricultural ex change, returned for his first visit back last week. Accompanying him were his wife, Kazue and son Yusuke. Mr. Yoshino is the vice-president of the International Agricultural Exchange Program and was in Canada to attend a meeting in Calgary. He made a brief stopover to spend time with the family who had played host to him and showed him the methods of farming in Canada over two decades ago. A dairy farmer in his native country, Mr. Yoshima says the industry there is on a much smaller scale than here. There is no pasture or hay in Japan and Mr. Yoshima says the average farm is only about two or three hectares in size. “Farming in Japan is about 10 years behind farming in Canada, he said. In the 23 years that have passed since Mr. Yoshima last saw the Procter farm he has noticed a great deal of change. “It is still very good, a nice place. But, farming has gotten very big, it’s very different,’’ he explained. After his stay in Canada Mr. Yoshima and his family planned to travel to California before their return to Japan. He said that he learned much from the first trip to Canada and has seen and noted the changes in the industry. “Maybe I will go home and try again, bigger.” RRUSSELS LIONS CLUB ELIMINATION DRAW WINNERS 25.00 Francis Storey 25.00 John Archibald 25.00 Sharon Devilon 25.00 Janine Knight 50.00 George Alexander 50.00 Terry Hoy 50.00 Edna Pearson 50.00 Gary Pipe & Lori Parker 75.00 Paul Thompson 75.00 75.00 75.00 Dorothy McDonaldQ.
