Master On Sunday evening, June 24, P.N.G. Bro. Melvin McCutcheon was installed as District Deputy Grand Master of Huron District #8 of the Oddfellows. The ceremony was held in the Brussels Oddfellows Rebekah Hall. The installing officer was P.D.D.G.M. Bro. Ross Nichol. During the evening Bro. David McCutcheon was installed as Dis­ trict Secondary by P.D.D.G.M. Bro. Ray Crawford; Bro. Roy Elliott was installed as District Warden by Bro. Cantelon of Clinton. Bro. Bob Richmond was acting Marshall. Bro. Cliff Bray gave opening and closing prayers. Bro. J. Rose presided at the piano. P.D.D.G.M. Bro. Allan Campbell presented his son Bro. Bob Camp­ bell, the retiring D.D.G.M. with his Mr. and Mrs. James Gibson, London visited this past Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pearson, Mr. Hugh Pearson and Bob of Brussels and Mrs. Edna Pearson of Ethel. Chuck and Jean Hasson of the Seaforth Academy have been con­ ducting classes in Jujitsu at Brus­ sels Public School since September of 1989. They will be resuming classes in the fall and anyone interested in learning this particul­ ar art of self-defense should call 527-1193. If there is enough interest a special eight week course in self- defence will be offered to women. Joe and Ethel Brewer attended the Blue Jays versus New York Yankees ball game at the Skydome in Toronto as representatives of Huron County. Huron County received mention by the broadcast announcer and secondly the Blue Jays welcomed all from Huron County on the large TV screen. Activities begin on Friday, July 6 and 7 as the slow- pitch tournament starts, with Pub­ night commencing at the Legion at 8. On Saturday the downtown area will be holding a sidewalk sale, in addition to being the focus for other activities as well. The popular Funfest parade will kick off at 12 noon. For information about the parade call 887-6983 or 887-6681. A light lunch and dessert will be held at the United Church and there will be a quilt display there also from 11 until 2. A cold meat supper sponsored by the Brussels, Morris and Grey Catering Group will be held in the arena from 5 until 7 followed by two dances. The younger crowd can “boogie” to the 50’s and 60’s beat of the Rudy Davis Band at the arena, while an adult dance is being sponsored at the Brussels Legion, with music by Double Trouble. Both begin at 8:30. Following the church service at the arena on Sunday at 11 a.m., there will be a pot luck picnic. Various activities are taking place during the afternoon for everyone to participate in, starting with the Canoe Rally at 1. The Bathtub races and log rolling competition will follow and at 3 p.m. the Duck Rally will again be held. Ducks can be purchased from any member of the Lions Club. Bessie Bingo starts at the ball park at 4 and the Pork Chop barbecue at St. John’s Anglican Church runs from 4:30 until 7. Wrapping up the weekend is the free family dance at the arena and the pyjama parade which begins at the ball park and travels to the community centre. On both Saturday and Sunday mornings the Firemen will again be cooking breakfast at the arena and a midway and the slo-pitch tourna­ ment will be held throughout the weekend as well.
