Brussels Midgels start big winning 6 in a row The Brussels Midgets are off to a great start to the ball season with a 6 and 0 record. This year’s team consists of Scott Bremner, Neil Pipe, Brian Alexan­ der, Andrew McCutcheon, Greg Mulvey, Dan Beuerman, Scott Johnston, Greg Wheeler, Brent Evans, Todd Rice, Steve McCut­ cheon, Shawn Jacklin, along with coaches Steve Coulter and Jeff McGavin. The boys started their season on May 13 against Lucknow with Scott Johnston pitching a 9-4 victory. On May 24 Brussels travelled to Ford- wich with Greg Mulvey going three innings, Andrew McCutcheon go­ ing three innings and Scott John- first lawn bowling tournament Woodstock wins slo-pitch championship Sports Nixon for supplying the boys baseball shirts and also to Belgrave Co-op for donating hats. Brussels holds 89 Compare at SI29.95 COMPARE AT 5349 95 The Brussels Lawn Bowling Club held its first tournament Thursday, June 7. The weather was perfect and the 10 greens were filled. Coming first for the afternoon was Phil Leahey of the Elmira Club with three wins 51 and pairs of nine. Second was Walter West- Jjrook of Mitchell; third, Ken Fines a Newmarket; fourth, Jack t5roughton, Atwood; fifth, Elmer Murray, Clinton; sixth, Stan Scott, Elmira; seventh, Don Haines, Clin­ ton; eighth, B. Ducklow, Mitchell; ninth, Don McLeod, Harriston. Consolation went to Pat Rowland of Brussels. Regular bowling is Monday and Thursday bvenings at 7 p.m. Come out and enjoy recreational lawn bowling. Woodstock Gumby’s captured the A championship at the 11th annual Brussels Optimist Slo-pitch tournament held in Brussels on the weekend. The Gumby’s defeated Howick Homes to win the title. June 2, Brian Alexander went two for three and drove in six runs as Andrew McCutcheon went five innings with 10 strikeouts as the boys cruised to their fourth win, 11-2 over Atwood. June 7 the team travelled to Wingham with Andrew McCut­ cheon getting the nod to pitch. Once again with nine strikeouts in seven innings, the boys won 6 - 2. On June 10 Lucknow was the host once again. Scott Johnston pitched seven and a third innings Belgrave Mites win, tie The Belgrave Mite boys played against Belmore at Belmore on May 28. They won the game with the final score of 15-11. Getting runs in the first inning were Michael Marks, Robbie Mc­ Gee, Jamie McCallum, Jason Howatt and Justin Campbell. In the second inning Justin Howatt hit a home run, and runs were scored by Marc Alexander, Tom Pfeiffer, Michael Marks, Robbie McGee and a home run by Jamie McCallum. The third and fourth innings were left scoreless and then in the fifth inning Ryan Fear, Michael Marks and Robbie McGee each had a run. The sixth inning ended the game with only one run by Marc Alexan­ der bringing the score to 15. This was a well played game by every­ one. On June 7 Belgrave Mite boys played at home against Listowel. The first inning there were three runs by Jason McBurney, Ryan Fear and Michael Marks with a home run by Jamie McCallum. Ryan Cook and Justin Howatt each brought a run in in the second inning with no runs in the third inning. The game ended up with the fourth inning with runs by Jamie McCallum, Jason Howatt, Justin Campbell, Ryan Cook and Jeremy Campbell tying the game 11-11. The next game is at Belgrave, Thursday, June 14 at 7 p.m. against Fordwich at the big ball diamond. Everyone is welcome to come out and watch the game. On behalf of the coach John Campbell and the mite boys they would really like to thank John J with six strikeouts and Andrew McCutcheon cleaned up with three strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings. Neil Pipe led the way hitting, going four for five with three RBI with the closest win of the year 11-10. The Brussels boys have outscor­ ed their opponents 71-24 in six games. Pitching has been superb with Andrew McCutcheon pitching 20% innings with 30 strikeouts and an impressive 1.74 ERA; Scott John­ ston with 23% innings pitched and Record number turns up for golf tournament Despite threatening skies and powerful winds a record number of golfers turned out for the Fourth Annual Golf Tournament for Epilepsy, Huron-Perth-Bruce at the Seaforth Golf & Country Club on Sunday, June 4. Eighty golfers competed for prizes generously donated from businesses throughout the region. It is expected as much as two thousand dollars will be raised from the tournament this year. The golfers came from as far away as Toronto, London and Kitchener. Organizers were pleas­ ed to have Neurologists Dr. R. D. Gordon Blair from Toronto Wes­ tern Hospital and Dr. Warren Blume and Dr. Rick McLachlan from University Hospital, London at the tournament.
