Pork Congress June 19-21 Grand Bend theatre gets grants to improve production facilities PIZZA PIZZA PIZZA Huron Country Playhouse has received a grant from the Ministry of Culture and Communications to pay for one-third of an estimated $100,000 project that will improve the facilities’ lighting system and increase capabilities of the fly gallery. The Playhouse was given the grant of a maximum of $39,278 upon submission of an application to the Ministry of Culture and Communications’ Cultural Facili ties Improvement Program. The upgrading project, now un derway, will ensure that the Play house can continue to produce first-rate theatre. Six 44’ steel fly bars, large pulleys and steel cables will replace the one 44’ fly bar, small pulleys and hemp rope that comprise the old fly system at the theatre. The new fly system will allow for a smoother transition between scenes and facilitate quicker scene changes. ypfore scene changes can now be ne, behind the various backdrops lowered from the system of steel fly bars, while the action continues on stage. The larger pulleys and steel cables that allow the back drops to be lowered and raised to and from the stage will make it easier for the backstage crew to fly drops and will add to the audience enjoyment of the productions. The most extensive upgrading involves the installation of top-of- the-line lighting equipment. Tech nical Director Simon Day has been busy renovating the lighting booth, to accommodate the new lighting board and dimmer rack that arrived at the Playhouse recently. The new dimmer rack is equipp ed with 96 dimmers that are controlled from the new lighting board. The system also includes new circuit bars which plug into the lights that hang from bars located high atop the ceiling of the barn theatre. The increased capabilities of the fly system combined with the new lighting system will enhance pro duction capabilities and increase the professional look of the produc tions. With these technical chan ges, the backstage crew will be able to perform their duties with increased ease, but more impor tantly, these changes will increase enjoyment for the audience.
