Eye on the money Auctioneer Bert Pepper of Bluevale spots a bidder as one of many paintings was offered at the Maitland Foundation dinner and auction in Brussels Saturday night. The auction raised $10,500 for the foundation’s support of the Wawanosh Nature Centre near Westfield. Grey donates to recreation Teamwork was the key to an activity set up by Mrs. Buffinga (Kindergarten) and Miss Morgan (Grade 7). On Wednesday, April 11 the Grade 7’s paid a visit to the kindergarten to help them with their stories. The children illustrat­ ed a picture for the story books and then told the Grade 7’s about the pictures. The Grade 7’s then wrote abouf the picture as the children dictated. When everyone was fin­ ished, the books were read aloud to everyone in the room. The books are being displayed outside the Grade 7 room for everyone to see. EARTH DAY What is Earth Day? Earth Day is a global awareness event that will be celebrated during the week of April 23 to 27. During Earth week, Historical meetiny Alison Lobb (centre) spoke on the work of recording information from Huron County cemeteries when she spoke to the Huron County Historical Society Wednesday in Blyth. Among those attending the meeting were Jean Nethery (left) and Anne Mclnnes of Blyth. over 90 different countries will join together to promote ecological survival and peace, which really means people, all over the world will start thinking seriously about this fragile world we all share. We, here at Blyth P.S., will be taking part in this important activity by picking up garbage around our village, participating in fitness activities, and making pos­ ters about how we can help save our environment. These posters will be placed in stores and businesses around the village. Watch for them. Several white pine trees will be distributed to the students who may plant them in their own yards. Other activities will include watching videos about saving our planet, Earth, cleaning up around the school, packing litterless lunches and planting seeds. This may seem like a rejuvena­ tion of Arbor Day which will develop a better knowledge and concern of our delicate world, which we must protect and keep for future generations. A NEW CREW by Chris Bromley and Chad Haggitt On Tuesday, April 10 the Kin­ dergarten registration was held. There were 18 children who signed up to come next year. Registration started at 1:15 until 3:15 p.m. The parents filled out the registration forms and the Huron County Health Unit was on hand to test their vision and hearing. Then they went to the Kindergarten room and picked a half day to come and visit the class. They also got their September Calendars. Grey Township Council held its regular meeting on April 17 and adopted the 1990 budget of the Brussels, Morris and Grey Board of Recreation Management. The esti­ mated levy for the Township of Grey in 1990 is $9,900. A grant of $500 was authorized to the Town and Country Home­ makers for 1990.
