Blyth council, Reformed Church cooperate on parking lot Co-operation between the village of Blyth and the Blyth Christian Reformed Church may bring some relief to the parking shortage on Blyth’s Main street. Henry Exel, one of the elders of the church, showed councillors at the April 14 council meeting plans for an expanded parking lot next to the church on the east side of Queen St. The Church has pur chased a house on King St. and will expand the parking lot it currently has to make room for more off- street parking. The house will remain for the current time. Mr. Exel explained the church would be happy to make the parking lot available for public parking at all times but Sunday church services in exchange for the village carrying out snow removal and maintenance of the lot. Cindy Fisher, the village’s plan ner with the Huron County Plann ing Department said her depart ment’s only concern with the parking lot would be that there was adequate buffering from the sur rounding neighbours and that the neighbours be consulted about the plans. Mr. Exel said the church was concerned with the problems and was discussing planting a hedge to shield the neighbours from the lot. A hedge was favoured because it didn’t require as much mainten ance, he said. Councillor Ken Brown agreed that a fence might take away from the neighbourhood. He said people in the neighbour hood had expressed concern that the parking lot be well organized and not be a place that would cause problems. Council asked Mr. Exel to try to set up a meeting with the neigh bours and inform council of its time and location.
