300 teachers visit Blyth Monday for arts PD day
The Village of Blyth plays host to
over 300 teachers on Monday, April
30 when elementary school
teachers throughout Huron County
gather for “Integrating the Arts’’ a
professional development day. All
of the classrooms at Blyth Public
School and all available spaces of
the Blyth Festival will be used for
the 22 workshops taking place both
morning and afternoon. Leading off
the day devoted to the arts is a
theatre presentation by “La Grosse
Valise”, an outstanding mime com
pany based in Montreal. Following
the performance teachers head off
to their various workshops which
cover the disciplines of dance,
music, visual arts, theatre, clown,
puppetry and writing.
“We’ve been busy making pre
parations and plans for this day
since June, 1989” said Co-Chair
man, Floyd Herman, Principal of
Turnberry Central Public School.
“Funds for these outstanding
workshop presenters come from
the generous support of the Feder
ation of Women Teachers, the
Ontario Public School Teachers’
Federation and the Huron County
Board of Education”. Organizers of
the committee include Dave Bart
lett of East Wawanosh Public
School, Marty Bond of Colborne
Public School, Mary Moffatt of the
Learning Resource, Dee Graham of
Brookside Public School who also
serves as Co-Chairman of the
planning committee, Floyd Her
man of Turnberry Central School
and Jane Gardner of the Blyth
Festival.

on a life-long programme of learn
ing. The Arts In Education form an
integral part of the total develop
ment of the individual” says educa
tor, Floyd Herman.
