Phone 523-4360 Happy Gang hosts Silver Tops The April meeting of Londesboro Happy Gang Seniors was held on Wednesday, April 18 at 12 o’clock Members and visitors from Auburn Silver Tops sat down to a delicious dinner. Everyone was welcomed by President Clara Riley. After dinner members had one table of Scrabble and 11 tables of euchre. Lucky winners were ladies’ high, Ruth Jardine, Auburn; ladies* lone hands, Reta Kelland; ladies’ low, Marie Krauter; men’s high, Don Buchanan; men’s lone hands, Addie Hunking (playing as a man); men’s low, Reg Lawson; door prize, Audrey Thompson; lucky chair, Ted Fothergill and Lawrence Plaetzer, Auburn; lucky table, Kay Lapp and Mrs. Koopman; lucky draws, Lillian Leatherland; Ruth Jardine, Roy Daer, Elliott Lapp, Hazel Reid, Orville Kelland, Don Buchanan, Tom Jardine, Betty Hulley, Mrs. Rouse, Beth Verwey, Murray Rollinson, Dorothy Grange, Josephine MacGregor, Hazel Watkins, Stella Adams, Beth Knox, Mildred Lawlor, June Fothergill, Lois Haines, Marion Haggitt, Isabel Scanlon and Helen Lawson. Mrs. Kay Lapp expressed the thanks of the Auburn Silver Tops for the invitation. Shrier speaker at club dinner The Canadian Council for the Blind Bluewater Club opened the season at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening, April 17 with a pot luck dinner. It was held at the Day Care Centre for the Homebound at Huronview. There were about 35 members and escorts in attendance. The guest speaker for the evening was Bob Shrier of FM 102. He was very humorous and also left his audi­ ence with some serious thoughts. The roll call and collection were taken up. The minutes of the Executive meeting were read. Pro­ grams for the coming year were given out. It was decided to go bowling for the May meeting. An invitation to the high school musi­ cal on April 24 was brought up and discussed. The meeting then dis­ persed. ‘Doubting Thomas’ sermon topic Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, April 22 were Tom and Lisa Duizer. Ushers were Rick Konarski, Allan Bosman, Don MacGregor, and Neil Salverda. Flowers on either side of the altar were from the funeral of Mr. Orville Newby. Flowers on the memorial stand were from the wedding of Darlene McClinchey and Doug Vincent on Friday. The sermon topic was “Doubting Thomas’’. Bible Study and Prayer Group will meet on Friday, April 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Maureen Beans in Auburn. The Senior Youth Group meets on Friday night April 27 (7-9 p.m.) at Clinton Crown Lanes for devotions and bowling. Huronview Fellows- ship Time is on Thursday, April 26 at 1:15 p.m. at the chapel at Huronview. Junior Choir practice is at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28. A congregational meeting will be held at the church on Monday, April 30 at 8 p.m. The meeting is to vote to extend a call to a new minister whom the Pastoral Rela­ tions Committe has chosen. The April meeting of Londesboro U.C.W. was held at the church on Monday evening, April 16 at 8 p.m. Margaret Good opened the meet­ ing by welcoming everyone. Hymn 299, “He Lives’’ was sung. Pearl Mason read a poem about Easter and Spring. Margaret Good read the scripture about Easter Sunday. Hymn 270, “I Believe in a Hill called Mount Calvary’’ was sung. Margaret Good led in prayer and the Lord’s Prayer was repeated in unison. Marjorie Cartwright spoke and told of her visit to New Zealand and Australia. This was very enjoyable. Betty Hulley presented her with a gift. Collection was taken up. Presi­ dent Kitty MacGregor took over the meeting. The U.C.W. Purpose was repea­ ted in unison. The minutes of the February meeting and World Day of Prayer were read and approved. Dorothy Tamblyn read the Finan­ cial Report. It was approved as read. It was moved by Betty Hulley and seconded by Brenda Radford to give two fruit loaves with the 16 dozen cookies for Centralia in May. The Banner is finished and will be put where the old one is after display at Centralia. A letter about refugees is to be sent to the Board with Reta Kelland. Thank you cards were received from Vietta Hoggart, the Bryans and MacGregor families, Clinton Hospital, Christian Re­ source Centre and Camp Mene- stung and World Day of Prayer. Brenda told who helped with the Banner. People The May meeting of W.I. is on May 9 at the hall. Gary Jewitt will be guest speaker. The May U.C.W. meeting will be held on Monday, May 14 at the church at 8 p.m. Betty Hulley showed how to make her secret pillows. Lunch was served by Norma Giousher. The sympathy of the community is extended to Nettie Newby and family on the passing of a husband and father Orville Newby. Shuffleboard The final Shuffleboard of the season was held on Wednesday evening, April 18 at 8 o’clock at Hullett Central School. Fifteen people were present.
