Coultes installed at conference
Over 140 items were available at the talent/slave auction at
Belgrave W.l. Hall Saturday and Florence McArter seems
mighty interested in one of them. The packed crowd at the
auction on Saturday helped the Knox United Church Sunday
School raise over $1400 foraVCRand TV needed for teaching.

‘ Coming King’
minister’s
message
The sanctuary of Knox United
Church, Belgrave, was beautified
by several Easter lilies and con
tainers of daffodils on Palm Sun
day, April 8 for the observance of
Children’s Sunday.
Mrs. George Procter, organist
accompanied the 10-member Child
ren’s choir as they sang “Hosanna!
Hosanna!’’ They then occupied the
central front pews to receive the
message “A Coming King’’, de
livered by Rev. Peter D. Tucker.
In response to “How many own a
pet?’’ all the children replied
“Yes”. Jesus had a good relation
ship with animals. A person’s
anger leaves if he keeps and
strokes a pet. His blood pressure
drops, so his health improves. Pets
are our friends, they seldom dis
play an ugly mood. This is a fine
lesson for humans to learn.
Jesus said “Find me something
to ride’’. A king might request to
ride on a very fine animal. Jesus
asked for a donkey, a baby donkey,
which had never been ridden. Most
unbroken, riding animals would
‘buck’ under these circumstances.
This little donkey did not, as Jesus
had created it and a special
relationship existed.
On Palm Sunday the crowd in
Jerusalem saw Jesus approaching
and shouted “Hurrah! now we’ll be
independent with this King to rule
over us.’’ Jesus, however, did not
ome as an earthly ruler, He came
a love. One may donate gifts
expecting love in exchange, but no
one can force love. It must be
spontaneous from within. Jesus
came to be King of our hearts; to
experience our love.
Often we’re like the crowd which
welcomed the King on Sunday and
rebuked him two days later. That’s
sin. Welcome Jesus. Let Him be
Lord of your life.
Offertory stewards were Lori
Keller and John R. Taylor.
At the conclusion of the sermon
Mrs. Ruth Gordon, Sunday School
Superintendent, came forward and
expressed her appreciation to all
who had assisted with the Slave
Auction on Saturday, April 7. She
stated that a substantial profit had
been realized to defray all expenses
on the new Sunday School T.V. and
V.C.R.
Just a reminder: Easter Sunday
Sunrise Service is at 7 a.m. in Knox

U.C.W. CONFERENCE
College Ave United Church,
Woodstock was filled to capacity on
Monday, April 2 for the opening
day of London Conference United
Church Women’s 28th annual
meeting.
Over 300 women gathered from
across the Conference to enjoy two
days of Bible Study, worship,
fellowship and Inspiration. “God’s
Faithfulness - Our Response’’ was
the theme.
Rev. Diane Walker of Norwich
led a Bible Study on women of the
Old Testament in the morning and
she gave a very informative presen
tation on the oppression of women
at that time. Her presentation on
Tuesday morning was God’s faith
fulness to women in the New
Testament and how His treatment
of women was different.
One of the highlights of the
Monday program was Mrs. La-
vonne Ballagh of Wingham who
captivated the audience with her
personal story and examples of
God’s faithfulness to her. Follow
ing a standing ovation for her talk,
she entertained in a lighter vein
