PAGE 3. ‘Kingship of Jesus’, sermon topic Another new business opened its doors last week as Bell’s Discount Centre and Variety Store in the former Blyth Supermarket building located at the north end of down­ town, held its Grand Opening, Thursday. Owner John Bell of Seaforth and his wife Cheryl own two similar stores in Lucknow and New Ham­ burg which he says provide an alternative to going out of town for odds and ends you need. “We do have space limitation here but we try to carry as much merchandise as we can,” said Mr. Bell. He adds that the store is not a grocery store but a variety discount store. Besides carrying some food products Bell’s offers a selection of children’s, ladies’ and men’s cloth­ ing, housewares, stationery, health and beauty aids, and video rentals. Greeting cards are featured at 40 per cent off all the time, according to Mr. Bell, and in addition to the regular discounted price on most merchandise the store will periodi­ cally feature in house specials as well like this week’s half price Easter candy sale. Mr. Bell feels that the store has been well-received thus far and he has been very pleased with the response. They will soon be adding ice cream to the inventory and Mr. Bell hopes to set up picnic tables in the outdoor area for the summer months. Flowers at the front of the church were from the funeral of Bill Musty placed by Murray, Barb and Edna Musty. Deepest sympathy from the con­ gregation is extended to the family. The scripture reading was from Matthew 21 (1-11) read by Abigail Ramirez and Kristy Caldwell. The nursery children assisted by teach­ er Gayle Poore sang “The Wise Man Built his House Upon the Rock" after which they waved palm Socializers learn travelling courtesy BY BARB LAMBLE The fourth meeting of the Blyth “Stylish Socializers’’ 4-H group was held on March 28 at the VanSteelandts at 7 p.m. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge and Yvonne Cronin, the leader, spoke about travelling courtesy. General rules were discussed as well as walking, cycling and automobile. Staying in a hotel or being a houseguest were talked about briefly by each mem­ ber. A filling-in of the blanks for the “Good host/hostess activity’’ taught each member the basic rules for having a houseguest. The meeting ended with discussion on the party in Meeting 6 and the 4H motto, “Learn to Do by Doing’’. branches during the reading of scripture. The seniors ladies’ choir accom­ panied by Phyllis Boak sang two numbers “The Palms’’ and “Hea­ ven came down and Glory filled My Soul” with special solo part by Cheryl Cronin. Ann Hulzebos was in charge of Junior Congregation. Rose deBoer was nursery leader. There will be a Sunshine Unit meeting at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 12. A music recital will be held for Shirley Vincent’s students on April 23 at 7:45 p.m. There will be a Good Friday service on April 13 at 11 a.m. Also, next Sunday is Family Sunday. There will be no Blyth. People 8 tables at euchre There were eight tables in play April 2 for the weekly euchre party at Blyth Memorial Hall. High lady was Bernice McClinchey while high man was Bill Craig. Mary Shob- brook and Don Buchanan had the low scores. Alice Buchanan and Ted Mills had the most lone hands. Mildred McNall won the special prize. There will be cards again next Monday at 8 p.m. Nora Kelly and Charlie Smith had the high scores at the weekly lost heir card party at Memorial Hall, Wednesday night. Effie Mc­ Call and Harvey Sillib had the low scores. Millar Richmond won the special prize. There were six tables in play. In order to have Jesus as King in our lives Rev. Ramirez said that we need to be loyal, obedient, and to pledge our allegiance to Him. God needs our time, our strength and our minds. The questions asked were “What kind of priority does Jesus have in our lives? and “Is He really King or do we keep track of how much we give, expecting some­ thing in return?. We should ponder the quotation “If Jesus is not Lord of all then He is not Lord at all.” Communion service followed the sermon. Fred Meier and Lloyd Walden prepared the communion table. Passing the communion plates were elders Fred deBoer, Bea Chambers, Melda McElroy, Bill Burkholder, Jack Blake and Bonnie Shannon.
