TOOTH FAIRIES VISIT BLYTH PUBLIC SCHOOL by Charlene Hulzebos and Julie McNichol This week at Blyth Public School the Tooth Fairies came to tell us about our teeth. They are em ployees of the Huron County Health Unit and visit all the elementary schools. They visited grade one and showed them a movie about a “Pig That Ate Too Much Junk Food’’. The Tooth Fairy also gave them a tooth brush and a magnet. Ryan Lee liked the movie best and Bonnie Stewart also liked the movie. She also went to the Grade 3 class and asked them questions about caring for their teeth. They watched a movie about Charlie Brown flossing his teeth. They received a toothbrush, toothpaste and a ruler. Steven liked the movie and the big mouth that she used to show them how to brush their teeth and the toothbrush shaped like an alligator. Michelle Hallahan liked the movie and the toothbrush. The Grade fives watched a movie called “Sweet Water Gultch’’. She showed them how to floss and brush their teeth. Mark Wilson liked the flossing and Zoey Onn liked the movie best. There was only one Tooth Fairy visiting each classroom but there were three of them altogether. Two of them were going to the class rooms and one was a student that came to observe. She was a “Tooth Fairy-in-training.” STRETCH, SOMERSAULT AND FLIP by Kimey Richmond and Kim Ferguson On Tuesday. March 27, the Blyth Gymnastics Club stru+ted their stuff in front of the students in the school gym. Mrs. Betty Battye and Danielle McDougall instructed the group this year. Mrs. Battye has been instructing groups of gym basts every Monday night for 13 years. The group demonstrated every thing from somersaults to aerials to vaulting to stretches. Gymnasts from grade 1 to 7 participated in the event. They gave a very interesting performance, which was enjoyed by everyone. YOUNG EINSTEINS by Brian Machan and John Ramirez For the past week there have been many little Einsteins, Edi sons, and Bantings running around Blyth Public School. Why? Prepar ing for the “Science Fair”. There were many excellent exhibits rang ing from paper towel testing to mold formation to the effect of insecticides on bees. It is obvious that the students put a lot of time and effort into their projects. Two students from the senior division (Gr. 7 & 8) will advance to county level competition. They are Jodee Medd and Erica Clark, both from grade 7. Jodee’s project was about the effects of Malathion insecticide used on wasps/honey bees. Erica’s thesis was Mold Formation. They were both exem plary projects, and we wish them luck in further competitions. We would also like to extend our “thank-you’s” to Mrs. P. Hulley and Miss D. Morgan for the time and effort they put into advising the students and arranging and grading the science fair exhibits. TRIP TO THE PET STORE by Steph Lentz and Jen Stadelmann On Wednesday, March 21, the Kindergarten class went to the Clinton Pet Store. BLYTH PUBLIC DINOSAUR SCHOOL by Kim Ferguson and Kimey Richmond Mrs. Hencher and the Grade 2 students have been deep in Dino saur Land for about a month. They learned about the different types of dinosaurs such as the Stegosaurs, Brontosaurus, Ticeratops, etc. They talked about the colour of each one, read books, made models and enjoyed dinosaur activities. Some of the activities were: lunch for a brontosaurus, a huge hall mural and other art and stories. Some of the stories go like this; Ninety million years ago dino saurs ruled the world. The tyrannosaurus rex walked very fast - very fast. The brontosaurus defended him self. The tyrannosaurus rex liked to eat other little dinosaurs. By Chauncey Carter I have a pet brontosaurus and it ate all the leaves on my trees. He has a big dinosaur house. It sticks its head in the window and eats my supper,. It sleeps in my tree house and his feet and tail stick out. In the morning he wakes me up and I don't have to feed him because he just goes to the park and he eats all the leaves there too. I say, “You bad brontosaurus” BUT I like my brontosaurs. By Michelle McNichol. Rhonda Rutabaga- Julie Ritchie’s entry in the Rutabaga Festival logo contest.
