Girl injured in accident
A 15-year-old Brussels girl sus
tained minor injuries as the result
of a single vehicle accident that
occurred late Wednesday evening
in Morris Township.
According to a spokesperson
from the Wingham OPP detach
ment, Tammy Rose was a passen
ger in a car driven by David
Heimpel. 21 of Wroxetor The nair
were travelling west down Cone.
6-7, at a speed of 75 kilometres an
hour OPP stated, when a deer ran
onto the road from the south ditch
and Mr. Heimpel swerved to avoid
it, driving his car into the ditch.
Miss Rose was taken to Wing
ham and District Hospital by
private vehicle.

Zurich to host seniors'rally
The Blyth Swinging Seniors met
in the Blyth Memorial Hall on
March 28 and had a delicious pot
luck dinner.
A lively sing-song followed this
led by Lloyd Walden with Phyllis
Boak at the piano. “Happy Birth
day’’ was sung to Ruby Philp,
Mollie Grant and Bill Craig for
their March birthdays. The secre
tary Feme McDowell read the
minutes and treasurer Nora Kelly
gave the financial report.
An invitation was read from the
Brussels Friendship Club to meet
with them on May 16 for a pot luck
dinner in the Brussels Legion.
Correspondence was read and the
Zone Rally will be held in Zurich on
April 17.
President John Hesselwood gave
a report from the hall board.
Charlie Smith favoured with two
poems. This ended the business
meeting.
The Program Committee arrang
ed for games of Euchre, Lost Heir,
and Crokinole.
The results are as follows:
Euchre, high lady, Ruby Pattison;
high man, Luella McGowan (play
ing as a man); low lady, Mollie
Grant: low man, Mae Badley
(playing as a man); Lost Heir, high
lady, Gladys Johnson; high man,
Harvey McDowell; low lady, Feme
Howatt; low man, Lloyd Walden;
Crokinole, John Hesselwood and
Irene Schultz.
The lucky lost heir table prizes
went to Jim Lawrie, Gene Snell,
Vera Hesselwood and Feme Mc
Dowell.
Lucky euchre table prizes went to
Dorothy Daer, Luella McGowan,
Alberta Stevens and Ruby Pattison.

New baby arrives home
Michelle and Steve Brock have
the newest girl in town. Marina
Dawn arrived on March 26 and is
now at home in Ethel.
Several Ethel families attended a
25th anniversary celebration in
Atwood Saturday evening for Clif
ford and Sheila Stevens. Congratu
lations.
The Ethel Women’s Institute
Playground Equipment Fund re
ceived a big boost last week with a
very generous donation from
Brussels Optimist Club.

They also individually judged four
different white breads which a few
members had made. To judge
bread you look at its general and
internal appearance, size, flavour
and aroma.
Later, near the end of the
meeting, members were able to eat
from the white bread and the
brown batter rolls they had made
the week before. They ended the
meeting with the 4H motto.

On March 5 the Ethel I club held
its fourth meeting of Breadventure
at Helen vanVeens.
Members opened the meeting
with the 4H pledge and then held
roll call, which was to name a
favourite sweet bread or bun.
Raisin bread seemed to be a
popular choice.
Then members decided on the
club name - Dough Rye Knead and
got their title page finished.
During the meeting they made

The Ethel Women’s Institute
held a euchre party on Monday
evening, March 26 at the Ethel
Community Centre. Eleven tables
were in play.
Hostesses were Jean Fraser,
Doris Jacklin and Thelma Keffer.
Winners were: high, Eva Harri
son, Thelma Keffer; low, Ruth
Martin, Marjorie Metcalfe (tie),
Stan Alexander, Leola Harrison
(tie); lone hands, Mildred Gill,
Harold Metcalfe; lucky tallies,
Alice Stevens, Bill .McLelland,
George Pearson, Mary Bell and
Bettie Hood.
