Missing, Margaret-Ann Stewart.____________________________________________________________________________ Blyth Novice ‘A’s’ end season with father and son game Sports Brussels Curling Club finishes third draw The Blyth Novice “A" team completed a strong season of hockey with a father and son game last Wednesday night in Blyth. The Blyth Novice players would like to thank the Blyth Lions club for hosting their annual novice hockey tournament and paying the registration for both Blyth teams. The tournament was well run and enjoyed by all. The Blyth Rep. Novice played in a tough hockey league against mostly larger towns playing 500 hockey in league play. Blyth advanced in playoff action winning their group sweeping four series, Blyth Novice ‘A ’$’ play tough games in Blyth Little Lions Novice Days BLYTH 2 - TIVERTON 1 The Blyth Novice A hockey team took part in the Blyth Little Lions Novice days and ran into some tough but good games. Blyth faced-off against Tiverton in their first game on Saturday and this game prcved to be an exciting match-up. Tiverton displayed a good team and an all-out effort, trying to upset Blyth in their first game. Tiverton scored late in the first period, to take a one goal lead. Michael Haggitt tied the game up at the 7:35 mark of the second period assisted by Michael Court­ ney and Michael Ansley. Minutes later Blyth took a narrow lead, with Chris Carter scoring the winning goal on a nice corner pass from Michael Haggitt and Michael Courtney picking up another assist. The third period was fast and furious but Blyth held on to their 2-1 lead with Scott Bromley be­ tween the pipes and Blyth defense taking over. BLYTH 4 ■ CLIFFORD 3 Blvth’s second game on Saturday had the local team up against their playoff rivals from Clifford. Once again the opposition scored first early in the game. Blyth came back with three straight goals to iciac a o-i ieao oy tne three minute mark of the second period. Chris Carter scored along with Amanda Anderson, banking the puck off of Clifford players. Michael Haggitt picked up both assists. However, Clifford kept the pres­ sure on, scoring midway in the second period keeping it close, 3-2. Blyth took a 4-2 lead on a blast from Jeff Cowan set up by Darryl for the “E” championship. Their coaches hope to see Blyth young talent back in hockey school next fall and enjoying another year of hockey. The Blyth Rep. Novice team had a busy season playing 42 games, they won 28, lost 13 and tied one. BLYTH NOVICE “A” TEAM STATS 89/90 #31 Scott Bromley - goalie for 33 games average 3.1 3 shut-outs - played defence 9 games with 7 assists. #1 Jason Badley - goalie for 9 games average 3.4 1 shut-out - played defence 33 games - 3 assists. #14 Jeff Cowan - centre - 71 goals - Bromley, but once again Clifford scored late in the second period keeping the game close. No goals were scored in the third period as Blyth held on to the 4-3 lead. LUCKNOW 5 - BLYTH 4 The Blyth Novices took to the ice Sunday, March 25 against an eager Lucknow team and lost a close 5-4 game. Blyth looked tired in this game and spotted Lucknow three first period goals. Chris Carter started a comeback for Blyth early in the second period, set up by Michael Courtney and Michael Ansley. Darryl Brom­ ley scored Blyth’s second goal assisted by Jeff Cowan and Michael Ansley. Michael Haggitt tied the game 3-3, late in the second on an unassisted effort. Lucknow scored early in the third to lead 4-3, but Jeff Cowan tied the game for Blyth again assisted by Darryl Bromley. Captain - 99 points. #12 Michael Haggitt - Centre - 47 goals - 40 assists. A. Captain - 87 points. #5 Michael Courtney - RW - 42 goals - 33 assists - 75 points. #9 Amanda Anderson - LW - 16 goals - 37 assists - 53 points. #10 Michael Ansley - Defence - 13 goals - 23 assists - 36 points. #2 Chris Carter - LW - 7 goals - 18 assists - 25 points. #27 Jeff Johnston - Defence - 0 goals - 10 assists - 10 points. #3 Jeremiah Hamm - Defence - 1 goal - 5 assists - 6 points. the game, and Blyth tried to equal the score but came up short. All in all Blyth played a great tournament considering the tough games on Saturday and the playoffs mixed in.
