This was a solid team effect with Scott Brcmley looking sharp in net and Blyth’s defence keeping the Clifford sharp-shoots at bay. Blyth went undefeated in four play-off series, 11 games. The Blyth Novice team started their last play-off series March 21 in Blyth against Clifford for the W.O.A.A. Novice “E” crown. This game proved to be a real exciting game as Blyth scored a come-from-behind win. Clifford stormed Blyth in the first period and scored three straight goals. Blyth made a mini-come-back late in the first and early in the second period, scoring two goals. Darryl Bromley starting Blyth off , set up by Jeff Cowan and Amanda Anderson. Michael Haggitt scored goal two on a pretty, unassisted effort. However, Clifford kept the pres­ sure on and scored two more goals one late in the second period and one early in the third, to take a commanding 5-2 lead. Blyth stormed back the second half of the third period, and tied the game at 5-5 apiece with three straight goals. Michael Haggitt scored his second of the night on a nice effort. Jeff Cowan scored Blyth’s fourth goal, assisted by Darryl Bromley and Amanda An­ derson. Darryl Bromley scored the tying goal for Blyth late in the third, assisted by Jeff Cowan, forcing overtime. The 10-minute overtime was fast and furious as both teams turned it on. The winning goal came with 1:37 left on the clock with Jeff Cowan’s solo effort breaking through the Clifford Defence. Clif­ ford pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, but Blyth added two more late goals, Darryl Bromley scoring his third of the night, and Jeff Cowan adding his third of the night. Scott Bromley played a solid game in net for Blyth with help from his defence to preserve this 8-5 overtime win. BLYTH WINS GAME TWO 4-2 IN CLIFFORD The team travelled to Clifford the following night, March 22, and came home with a big win. Clifford started the scoring early in this night, but Michael Haggitt got Blyth going, scoring on a pass from Amanda Anderson. Clifford went ahead 2-1 late in the first but once again Blyth tied the score with Jeff Cowan scoring on a set up by Darryl Bromley. Michael Courtney scored Blyth’s winning goal at the 7:48 mark of the second period on a corner pass from Chris Carter. Michael Haggitt added Blyth’s fourth goal on a solo effort minutes later, giving Blyth a 4-2 lead in the second period. The third period went scoreless as Scott Bromley kept the puck out with the help of his defence and forwards playing two-way hockey.
