Continued from page 16
goal. This was a solid team effect
with Scott Brcmley looking sharp in
net and Blyth’s defence keeping
the Clifford sharp-shoots at bay.
Blyth went undefeated in four
play-off series, 11 games.
The Blyth Novice team started
their last play-off series March 21
in Blyth against Clifford for the
W.O.A.A. Novice “E” crown.
This game proved to be a real
exciting game as Blyth scored a
come-from-behind win. Clifford
stormed Blyth in the first period
and scored three straight goals.
Blyth made a mini-come-back
late in the first and early in the
second period, scoring two goals.
Darryl Bromley starting Blyth off ,
set up by Jeff Cowan and Amanda
Anderson. Michael Haggitt scored
goal two on a pretty, unassisted
effort.
However, Clifford kept the pres
sure on and scored two more goals
one late in the second period and
one early in the third, to take a
commanding 5-2 lead.
Blyth stormed back the second
half of the third period, and tied the
game at 5-5 apiece with three
straight goals. Michael Haggitt
scored his second of the night on a
nice effort. Jeff Cowan scored
Blyth’s fourth goal, assisted by
Darryl Bromley and Amanda An
derson. Darryl Bromley scored the
tying goal for Blyth late in the
third, assisted by Jeff Cowan,
forcing overtime.
The 10-minute overtime was fast
and furious as both teams turned it
on. The winning goal came with
1:37 left on the clock with Jeff
Cowan’s solo effort breaking
through the Clifford Defence. Clif
ford pulled their goalie for an extra
attacker, but Blyth added two more
late goals, Darryl Bromley scoring
his third of the night, and Jeff
Cowan adding his third of the
night.
Scott Bromley played a solid
game in net for Blyth with help
from his defence to preserve this
8-5 overtime win.
BLYTH WINS GAME TWO
4-2 IN CLIFFORD
The team travelled to Clifford the
following night, March 22, and
came home with a big win.
Clifford started the scoring early
in this night, but Michael Haggitt
got Blyth going, scoring on a pass
from Amanda Anderson.
Clifford went ahead 2-1 late in
the first but once again Blyth tied
the score with Jeff Cowan scoring
on a set up by Darryl Bromley.
Michael Courtney scored Blyth’s
winning goal at the 7:48 mark of
the second period on a corner pass
from Chris Carter. Michael Haggitt
added Blyth’s fourth goal on a solo
effort minutes later, giving Blyth a
4-2 lead in the second period.
The third period went scoreless
as Scott Bromley kept the puck out
with the help of his defence and
forwards playing two-way hockey.
