Phone 526-7589 WI banquet, April 10 The monthly meeting of the Auburn Women’s Institute was held at the Community Hall on Tuesday, March 20. The president Erma Cartwright welcomed all members and guests. The meeting opened with O Canada, the ode and Mary Stewart Collect with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. Erma Cartwright read a poem entitled “Spring”. The min­ utes were read by the secretary Kay Lapp and also the correspon­ dence was read. It was decided to attend the 80th anniversary for Blyth Institute on May 3 at 8 p.m. There was a donation sent to Blind Missions. The annual banquet is to be held at the Blue Fountain in Clinton at 12 noon on April 10. Rides will be arranged. Officers are to have their reports ready for that day. Roll call was answered by 14 members and four guests. Tina Empey gave the treasurer’s report. Mrs. James Carne introduced her husband Jim to show slides of his trip to Quito, Ecuador where he - was part of a work team there, milding cabins. He also gave a splendid presentation. He stated that 16 Canadians had gone. He said the temperatures were 75 and 80 degrees at all times. He told of the life there, food, monuments, rugs, wall hangings. He said he had seen one farmer ploughing with a wooden plough and oxen. He said the people were short and the women wore several strings of orange beads on their necks. Their music was mostly flutes, and he playes some for us to hear. The 7 tables at euchre There were seven tables in play on Tuesday evening, March 20 at the euchre held at the Community Hall. Winners were: men’s high, Ross Brighton; men’s low, Nancy Slater (playing as a man); ladies’ high, Lilian Stewart; ladies’ low, Lillian Letherland; novelty, Mary Shob- brook. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday evening at the Community Hall at 8 p.m. People Mr. and Mrs. Bert Allin of Agincourt spent a few days recent- v with Mrs. Beth Lansing. Mrs. Bonnie Armour spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin. 4H club tours funeral home BY BRIAN MACHAN On Monday, March 19 the Londesborough I, 4H club toured the Ball and Falconer Funeral Home in Clinton, Ontario. Members started the tour by having a question and answer period and a brief talk on how staff embalm the bodies before a funeral. They then discussed the cost of a funeral. After that members toured the showroom and looked at the coffins. Before they left each received a free pen and colouring book. Members thank Mr. Falconer for taking time out of his very busy schedule to show them around, even though he had two calls to look after. people had a lot of fish to eat and they went fishing at night and the restaurants were very fashionable. Their houses were built on tile up high and the animals were kept below. The cabins the Canadians helped make were of cement blocks and each one housed 12 people. They had washrooms and showers. His main job was to do the electrical work for the cabins. Mostly Span­ ish was spoken. There were lots of flowers and coconut palms, and they drank the milk from the coconut. Kay Lapp thanked Mr. Carne for his interesting presentation and slides. The Queen and Grace were sung. Cake and ice cream were served by the hostesses Jean Plaetzer, Mrs. Carne and Celia Taylor. Dave Snihur conducted the morning service at Knox United Church. Members worshipped in a newly painted and decorated sanctuary and those who were in charge of Silver Tops meet The Silver Tops had their pot luck dinner at the Community Hall Wednesday, March 21. Grace was sung and 16 members sat down to a pot luck dinner. Afterwards a short business period was held with Kay Lapp conduct­ ing. On April 18 the group is invited to Londesboro to a luncheon. The Seniors Rally is to be held at Zurich on April 17. Registration is from 9 - 10 a.m. It was moved and seconded that the new Slate of Officrs be left until September. Kay Lapp also read a poem “Weather” plans were made to quilt a quilt later on in the fall. A Space Walk was discussed from May 25 to June 3. Walk and keep track of your hours, etc. Cards and shuffleboard followed for afternoon entertainment. the projects were thanked for this. Mrs. Gordon Gross was organist and pianist for early hymn sing. Call to Worship was read alternate­ ly followed by the hymn “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing”. The Prayer of Confession was said in unison. Nicole and Jake Middel- kamp sang a duet. The children’s song was “He’s a peach of a saviour” followed by the children’s story. The hymn “My Hope is in the Lord” was sung. Janice Webster read the scripture from Matthew. Rev. Snihur’s sermon was entitled I Peter - Trials into Triumph, the Letter of Hope Part 4, “Preparing for the Best”. The offering was received by Brian Gross and Mari- nus Bakker and dedicated. Rev. Snihur pronounced the Benediction and the response was sung and ended the service. Bible study and prayer group meets on Friday, March 30 at 1:30 p.m. at the Snihurs. The Old Fashioned Country Supper in on Wednesday, April 4 at 5, 6, 7 p.m. Adults $6, Elementary School pupils $3. Family Rate $20. All proceeds to go to the Sunday School.
