Morris council accepts $222,500 arena budget The budget for Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre Board in the amount of $222,500 was accepted by Morris Council at its March 20th meeting. Councillor Deloris Souch raised some questions concerning the wages, but it was noted that they were comparable with those paid at the Blyth Community Centre. Kevin Pletch attended the meet ing as the representative of the Belgrave Community Centre Board to present its budget for the year. Mr. Pletch discussed the operation of the centre and advised that a proposal for improvement of the facilities is in progress. Council approved the budget in the amount of $22,025 and thanked Mr. Pletch for the excellent operation of the facility. The draft of the recreation budget for Morris was reviewed by Council and it was decided that it would be accepted in the amount of $28,888 and Council will apply to the Ministry of Tourism and Recre ation for a provincial grant of $6,000. Councillor Clem McLellan sug gested that a resolution should be drafted and sent to area municipali ties for their endorsement and forwarded to the provincial govern ment suggesting that recreation grants should be increased, due to rising costs. Council was notified of a meeting at Blyth Community Centre on April 4 at 8 p.m. to discuss and review liquor policies and regula tions. Council was advised that a representative from the Ministry of the Environment and Wingham Fire Chief Harley Gaunt, had viewed the tires at the landfill site. This inspection was ordered by the Fire Marhshal for all sites and the Ministry’s representative was pleased with the operation and did not feel the tires were of any volume to cause problems. A discussion took place concern ing the proposed purchase of the seven acres of land south of the Brussels, Morris and Grey Com munity Centre by the Agricultural Society. Council resolved that if the Recreation Board assumes respon sibility of the land purchase from Jack Bryans, Morris Township would be responsible for their share of any costs involved, as set out by the recreation agreement, stating the share of the recreation expenses for Morris. Clerk Nancy Michie will be forwarding a copy of this letter to the village of Brussels, Grey Town ship. and the Brussels Agricultural Society and its chairman, Jim Hunter. A grant of $350 was approved for the Bluevale Cemetery to be for warded in April. The grant was requested by Turnberry Township. Council was advised that final approval for the PRIDE program for Belgrave has been approved, and papers will be received for signing in the near future. A memo from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food was present ed to Council advising of changes to the drainage grants for engin eered drains. Approval of the grant must be received before the project proceeds. A grant of $372 was forwarded to the Huron County Library for the Brussels Branch computer fund- raising project. Three tenders were received tor crushed gravel and after discussing them it was agreed that the tender of George Radford Construction in Blyth for supplying, hauling, crushing and spreading 33,000 imperial tons at the tender price of $3.35 per ton for a total price of $110,550 be accepted. Councillors Delores Souch and Reeve Doug Fraser have received petitions from ratepayers to re quest solid application of chloride on the concession roads. Following a lengthy discussion it was decided that the petitioners be notified that the roads will be treated with a solid application once in the year, as in the past, and there will be no second application. The roads will be treated as early as possible when they are graded and suitable for application. Council agreed that the applica tion could be wider than usual and some sideroads where there is heavy traffic could have solid application, but the majority will be spotted. Since crushed gravel will not be applied in the summer this year, Council decided not to hire a summer student.
