The gross expendi tures amounted to $28,047,240. Thus a total of $158,968 will have to be transferred from the reserve Compiled by Mrs. Mildred Lawlor. Phone 526-7589 Pretzels, breadsticks made at 4H meeting BY LAUREL CAMPBELL Meeting five was held on March 5 at 4:15 at Regina Campbell’s and Lorraine Carnes. ‘Members were in two groups, one group made Italian bread sticks while the other group made pret zels and then switched. After members got to taste the breadsticks and pretzels. Members answered questions about how the bread's crust turns out if you do the bread in the microwave and using the food processor in bread mak ing. Members would like to again thank Regina and Lorraine for the use of their kitchens. They have decided to have meeting six after the March break on March 19 at the Missionary Church basement. WANT TO APPEAL YOUR ASSESSMENT? there will have to be money taken from the reserves to meet the actual expenditures for the year it is less than we had anticipated at last month’s meeting,” he said. In the elementary school sum mary the amount received from provincial grants totalled $17,380,533 which was a little higher than the predicted amount of $17,293,422. Revenue received from tuitions and other sources fund to balance. On the secondary level, the actual total amount of the expendi tures was $23,572,214. Revenue acquired from provincial grants, tuitions, surplus from the previous year and the 1989 taxes totalled $23,359,874. This resulted in a difference of $212,340 to be trans ferred from reserves, bringing the entire amount to be transferred to $371,308. You still have time to appeal your 1989 assessment if you feel your home or business property has been improperly assessed. Your assessment is important because the amount of property tax you will pay in 1990 depends on it. The assessed value of your property is multiplied by the municipal and school mill rates to determine your property taxes. Notices of Property Valuation were mailed to property owners and tenants whose assessments have changed since last year. Open house information sessions were held in your area to give you the opportunity to ask questions and correct any errors. The Assessment Roll was delivered to your municipality on February 27, 1990 and will be used to calculate the taxes you will pay in 1990. You can review the Roll at your municipal office during regular business hours. If you believe your prop erty has been improperly assessed and you have not yet registered an appeal, you still have until March 20, 1990 to mail or deliver your appeal to the Assessment Review Board. And remember, even if you did not receive a Notice of Prop erty Valuation, you still have the right to appeal. Appeal deadline: March 20, 1990 This deadline does not apply to the municipalities and localities of: County of Kent City of Chatham The Assessment Review Board is an independent tribunal under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. It is intended to provide you with an additional opportunity to have your assessment reviewed if, in your opinion, it is not fair and equitable with the assessment of similar properties in your area. The Review Board is more informal and relaxed than a regular court of law. You may present your own case, retain a lawyer, or ask a relative or friend to speak as your agent. To help you in filing your appeal, Notice of Appeal forms are available from the Assessment Review Board, your Regional Assessment Office, or your municipal office. You can also use the reverse side of a Notice of Property Valuation, or write a letter giving the property address and roll number along with your reasons for appealing. Appeals should be forwarded to the Regional Registrar of the Assessment Review Board at the address shown below. If you appealed your previous assessment, it will be necessary to lodge an appeal against your assessment with the Assessment Review Board each year, if the appeal against your previous assessment has not yet been settled, or your 1989 Notice of Property Valuation does not reflect the most recent decision of the Board. In those parts of Ontario designated for French Language Services, you can appear before a bilingual (English/French) Appeal Board. Please check the space provided on your appeal form if you wish to use this service.
