THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 1990. PAGE 29. Christ is answer for a better world, Minister says Continued from Page 24 veloped to permit them to live sexually as they pleased, without fear of consequences. There are those who would prefer a world where certain races would be isolated if not eliminated. Again, one’s starting point determines what solutions or conclusions one comes to. If our prayer for a better world is directed to almight God as He is revealed in his Holy Word the Bible, then we must see the world through his eyes, we must want his answer not man’s. The powerful but weak United Nations cannot answer our prayer for with all its international exper tise, it does not diagnose the problem accurately and so its solutions fail. God’s Word then is our starting point and God pulls no punches, for He sees and declares that the heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. The problem is sin - a failure to obey God’s laws, and walk in his ways. Galatians 5 describes rightly the human heart, out of which comes the injustice and oppression. The apostle Paul speaks of the heart as hating, making trouble, doing witchcraft, being jealous, being angry with each other, causing divisions among people, taking part in sexual sins and worshipping false gods. After giving a description of the sinful heart, he describes the heart that goes God’s way. This heart is not the old one made over, but rather a brand new heart out of which flows love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and self-control. When I lived in Hamilton I would occasionally visit a little mission in a rough, tough neighbourhood. It was a fact that this tiny mission did more to restore law and order than the police could ever do, because it dealt with the source of the crime ... the human heart. We can pray for a better world until the cows come home, and that’s fine as long as we under stand that the “Better World’’ begins in my heart and yours, yes the individual heart. How do 1 get this new heart that we described earlier? I get it when I confess to God that I am a sinner and in genuine repentance accept Christ’s shed blood on Calvary’s cross, as full payment for my sin debt to God. From this point on 1 trust the risen, living Christ as my Saviour and Lord as long as my life shall last. I may feel powerless to really affect the world in the great and grand perspective of things, but I can allow Christ to affect and change my world in the home, toward my neighbour and on the job, as I surrender myself in total to Him. The heart of the world’s pro blems is the problem of the heart. Only Christ is the answer to our prayer for a better world.
