Obituaries FREDERICK THOMAS SEERS Frederick Thomas Seers of God­ erich died at the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich on Feb. 23, 1990. He was 84 years of age. Mr. Seers was a retired member of the Huron County Road Depart­ ment. He was bom in Gloucester, England on Nov. 9, 1905, the son of Thomas Seers and the former Caroline Landers. He married Ma­ bel Neil in 1941 and Lottie Lawlor in 1970. Both predeceased him. He is survived by a son William, and his wife Maxine and a daugh­ ter-in-law Kaye Seers, all of Auburn and by a sister, Elsie Keyes of Goderich. Also surviving are grandchildren Shawn Seers of London, Gail and her husband Allan Reid of Hensail, Faye and her husband Geoff Priest of London, Carol and her husband Bert Rein­ ink of Walton and seven great­ grandchildren. He was predeceas­ ed by a son, John Seers. The funeral service was held from the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home, Goderich on Mon­ day, February 26, 1990. Rev. David Snihur of Knox United Church, Auburn officiated. Pall­ bearers were Bert Reinink, Allan Reid, Geoff Priest, Shawn Seers, Raymond Layton and Bill Layton. Flower bearers were Scott, Jeff and Jeremy Reid. Interment was in Bali’s Cemetery, Auburn. BERTHA [COOPER] COOK Bertha (Cooper) Cook of Brook­ haven Nursing Home, Wingham and formerly of Belgrave died Sunday, February 25, 1990 at the Wingham and District Hospital. She was in her 85th year. She was the widow of the late Telford Cook of Belgrave who predeceased her in 1967. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Harvey (Grace) Cook and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Arnold (Velma) Vint as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Beatrice (Harry) Cook, two brothers, Frank Cooper and Arnold Vint. The funeral service took place from the McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on February 27 with Rev. Peter Tucker of Belgrave United Church officiating. Spring burial will take place at Brandon Ceme­ tery, Belgrave. Memorial dona­ tions to the Wingham and District Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Madill students champs A Belgrave-area student was one of the members of F. E. Madill Secondary School’s Reach for the Top team that defeated Stratford Central in the final tournament on Wednesday, February 28. Ben Barnes, the 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barnes of RR 5, Brussels, along with Sarah Brophy and Craig Jefferson of Lucknow, and Kevin Smith of Wingham took home the CKNX trophy as the top team in addition to each receiving a $1,150 scholar­ ship to Wilfred Laurier University. It was the culmination of an extremely eventful day for both Mr. Barnes and Miss Brophy as earlier they were two of the students selected after a debate at Central Huron Secondary School to compete at the Provincial debate in Windsor next month.
