Bride sings solos during wedding ceremong SHORTREED - McINROY Rick Mclnroy, Marmora and Margaret Shortreed, RR 1, Walton did get married! The ceremony took place in Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels on Saturday, December 30, 1989 at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Carolyn McAvoy officiat­ ing. The bride was given away by her father, Wilfred Shortreed. She wore a floor-length, white, satin gown, she had designed herself with a lace bodice and leg of mutton sleeves. Her headpiece was a matching Juliet cap with detach­ able fingertip veil. Seed pearls accented the gown and headpiece. She also wore pearl and diamond earrings and necklace, a gift from the groom. Lin Steffler, Seaforth was Ma­ tron of Honour. She wore a red satin dress with a matching Juliet cap. Seed pearls also accented her outfit. Both ladies carried arm bouquets of red roses and red carnations accented with white snow drops and pearls. The groom was attended by his friend Rick Deering, Madoc as best man. Guests were ushered by Eldon Danford, Marmora, friend of the groom and Bill Shortreed, RR 1, Walton, brother of the bride. All the men wore dark suits. During the ceremony the bride sang two solos, “To Me’’ and “Wedding Prayer”. The Melville Presbyterian Church Choir led in the singing of the hymns, “O God From Whom Mankind Derives Its Name” and “O Perfect Love”. Mr. and Mrs. Mclnroy Joanne King, Brussels was the organist. A family dinner was held imme­ diately following the ceremony in the Church basement where the guests were greeted by the bride’s father, Wilfred Shortreed, the bride’s aunt, Miss Mary Mac­ Donald, Toronto and the groom’s parents, G. W. (Pete) and Reta Mclnroy, Marmora. The wedding reception took place in the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre with Neal Cathcart, Peterborough providing the music for the evening. The audience was also entertained with two numbers by the Seaforth Harmony Hi Lites, of which Mar­ garet is a member. The couple is now residing at RR 1, Walton. Prayer day emphasizes a better world BY DON VAIR The emphasis of this year’s World Day of Prayer observed on Friday, March 2, was on a better world, a world in which righteous­ ness reigns, bearing fruit of love and justice for all. The prophet Isaiah accurately described our world of today almost 300 years ago when he by the spirit of God wrote (Isa. 53:6) “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way ...” The world’s way is not God’s way hence the desperate cry to God for something better. How one views any particular issue depends upon one’s starting point. Some think it would be a better world if we could have abortion on demand.
