Morris Council approves drainage maintenance budget A budget for drainage mainten ance in Morris Township in the amount of $32,250 for drain repairs and $6,650 for drainage superin tendent costs was approved by council at its meeting on February 20. Drainage superintendent Gary Nicholson requested that council pay his membership to the Water loo Drainage Chapter Association. Council was informed by East Wawanosh Township, who have employed Mr. Nicholson as well that they are willing to share the costs. A township landowner Henry Rouw discussed the Laidlaw Drain that passes his property on Lot 6, Cone. 8. He requested that the bank be rehabilitated and the corrugated steel pipe that crosses the Concession road be repaired, as it lifted during heavy rain last year. It was noted that the bank rehabilitation would be a road cost but the corrugated steel pipe is part of the municipal drain. Council agreed to inspect the matter during this year’s road tour and will notify Mr. Rouw of their decision. Council authorized the interim payment of allocation to the Huron County Board of Education be deferred until June when tax funds are received. A letter was forwarded to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food concerning the proposed subdivi sions for Morris in Belgrave and a notice of a needs study that is being prepared to accompany the applica tion. Council was advised that a ratepayer had notified the office to say that he felt the cost of transporting recyclable materials was inexpensive considering the life span of the disposal site. A grant of $150 was given to the Huron County Farm and Home Safety Association for this year. Reeve Douglas Fraser will be attending the members of parlia ment meeting in Clinton on March 17. A grant of $500 was given to the Huron County Federation of Agri culture. Morris Council authorized ten dering for 33,000 Imperial tons of crushed gravel for the north side of the township to be due by March 20. The gravel will have to be spread by June 15 or wait until September 15 for application. ‘Temptations’ sermon topic Greeters at the March 4 Sunday Service at the Blyth United Church were Bill and Brenda Burkholder.
