Brussels students win contest BY SANDRA JOSLING Congratulations to all partici­ pants of the Legion public speaking held Feb. 28 at the Brussels Legion hall. The judges had the difficult task of choosing the winners. Each speaker was a delight to listen to. Winning the senior division was Sherri Huether of Brussels Public School and the junior division was John Lowe, also of Brussels. These two winners now advance to Clin­ ton for the district finals on Sat., March 3. Dart winners from the tourna­ ment held Sat., Feb. 17 were Mary and Cam Ross first, Diane and Barry Engel second, and Martha Logan, Ted Little and Dave Jamie­ son, third. There are still tickets available for the St. Patrick’s Day dance. Anyone wishing tickets can contact the Legion or Murray’s Barber Shop. Music will be provided by the Country Companions. Brussels club elects officers BY JACQUIE SEILI The first meeting of the Brussels I 4H club was held at the home of our leader, Kathy Bridge, on February 12. The topic for this club is “Bread­ venture”. Members opened the meeting with the 4H pledge. They then introduced themselves, be­ cause they had two new members, Teresa Bridge and Becky David­ son. Then they held an election to vote in a president and vice-presi­ dent. New president is Sandra Bridge and Tricia Duskocy is vice-president. Teresa and Becky made the bread while everyone else practised kneading with some store bought dough. Everyone enjoyed the bread and they closed the meeting with the 4H motto, “Learn to Do by Doing”. ‘Yeastie Beasties’ new club name The second meeting of the Brussels II 4H club was held on February 12. Members first said the 4H pledge then answered the roll call. They then read through the 4H Breadventure booklet. Afterwards they tasted Andrea Rammeloo’s cinnamon buns and Heather Somers french bread and drank lemonade. They also voted on the name Yesty Beasties for our club name. The third meeting of the Brus­ sels II 4H club was held on February 19 at Wilma Rammeloo’s. Members first said the 4H pledge then answered the roll call. They chose Victoria Richards’ title page and then read through the 4H Breadventure booklet. U£007 Library hosts March break fun March Break is “Phantom of the Library” Week at most Huron County Library Branches. Special events and activities will be held using the phantom theme. Special activities at the Brussels Branch include a mask-making workshop on Thursday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. Children from 7 - 12 will learn how to make scary paper masks.
