A total of almost $500,000 was spent over and above the estimated expenditure for the 1989 budget, according to Mr. Allan, who feels that the best solution would be to take the money out of the reserves. The current reserves of the board are $1,725,000. The major portion of money spent beyond the actual estimate went towards the building projects at elementary and secondary schools which reached a total cost of $512,000. Capitol projects in cluded additions to create extra space at five elementary schools in the county. Trustee for Blyth and Hullett Township, John Jewitt stated that it was his understanding that when the board was considering the additions it was “our intent to use the reserves”. At the time of the meeting the expenditures were still subject to audit. COMING EVENTS Free Seminar YOUR CAREER IN TRUCKING Begins with professional training. Learn more! Mrs. Barb Pinkney, area P.R.O. was present and gave everyone a challenge to do good reporting. 5he said they must keep their members and the public aware of the projects carried on by the W.I. in the community provincially, federally and the world. Mrs. Pinkney reminded the ladies present that the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) their sister organization is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee in July. She also said A.C.W.W. is in need of funds to carry on its many projects, for example clean water for all, infant nutrition, education for mothers and many more. Suggestions are being made that the W.I. turn its “Pennies for Friendship” into “Loonies for Friendship”. It is hoped that branches will respond with a special donation as well. Recycling is still high on the W.I.’s priority list. At the meeting tags were made from used boxes with reusing plastic covers All 11 branches were represented and they were asked to write a report on the meeting and read it. Remember June is W.I. month. Do something special in your branch.
