READING BUDDIES by Rhonda Gibbons and Jody Button Every Wednesday and Friday students from grade six and grade one get together and read. When we get to the grade one classroom, we pick up our reading buddy. The grade one teacher, Mrs. Battye, has already helped the grade ones find their books to read. Half of us go into the grade six room and halt of us go into the grade one room with our buddy. The grade ones read to the grade sixes for 10 to 15 minutes. Some comments from the buddies follow. Anthony deBoer says that it helps him understand reading better. His partner, Wes Wilson, says that he likes reading with Anthony. Cathy Caldwell says that her buddy helps her read better. Greg Toll, her partner, says that reading buddies are fun, and, you get time away from class. He thinks it is good for the children in grade one. Bonnie Stewart (Gr. 1) and Charlene Hulzebos from grade six think it is a good program too. As for us we think that it is a good way to get to know the grade l’s and we hope it continues next year. MOVING IN by Kim Richmond and Kim Ferguson The day finally arrived! On Monday, February 5, Mrs. Web ster and Mrs. Cronin were able to move in to the new addition to our school. Fortunately, with all the good help from the students, the library will be open quite soon. There are 2 rooms: a large library and computer area, and a smaller special education/resource room. The floors are covered with aqua-grey carpet and the walls are a lighter shade of aqua. It was well worth the wait. The new area will be well used by staff and students alike. U.C.W. TOLD HANDLE OUR ENVIRONMENT WITH CARE...... On Thursday, Feb. 22 the regu lar meeting of Blyth U.C.W. was held in the parlour with President June Peck in charge. The meeting opened with the worship by Bonnie Shannon on the theme “How do we use our Time’’. Myrtle Vodden presented the Stewardship topic “Environment - Handle with Care’’. God made the earth for all and it is our responsi bility to look after it. She based her presentation on Genesis 1 and 1 and Psalm 104. The environmental crisis with the burning tires is only one of our problems. Another is the water problem in Elmira and St. Jacobs. Creation is still going on. We are interdependent with ani mals, fish, air, trees, etc. Creatures and Humans were created on the same day. Not only are we respon sible for the stewardship of our earth, but also we need to Take Time (as mentioned in the worship) to go for a walk through a bush, on a beach etc., to see and appreciate all that has been given to us. President June conducted the business period and Mildred Ament and Elsie Walsh (from the Fveninp Unit) served lunch. * Registered Trademark of Shell Canada Limited 15W40 4 LITRES MULTIGRAOE MOTOR OIL MUILE MOTEUR MULTIGRADE RexelKT 15W40 protects your investment in the long run Keeping your equipment on the move takes lime and money.
