Sports Blyth Pee Wees eliminate Hensall BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Pee Wees eliminated Hensall in Group Playoff action last week with two straight wins. Blyth hosted the first game last Monday, February 19 where they gave Hensall every opportunity to win. Hensall built a 4-1 lead before the Blyth offence caught fire to score .the final four goals of the game to shade Hensall 5-4. After Hensall took a 2-0 lead Mike Bromley, with an assist to Henry Bos, cut the lead in half in the late stages of the first period. Hensall then built a 4-1 lead in the second before Mike Bromley once again got Blyth back in the game with a short-handed effort with a nice set up from Wilfred Datema. The third period belonged to Blyth with first Ryan Chamney cashing in a rebound of Brian McNichol’s shot. Then Blyth tied the game as Brian McNichol won the face-off to Henry Bos whose slapper from the point eluded everything in sight. Late game heroics were provided by Mike Bromley as he scored the game winner to complete his hat-trick with a rocket to the goalie’s stick side. Jerrod Button was the play maker on the goal as he collected an important assist. The goaltending was strong, especially in the third as Chris Lee stopped a penalty shot. With this 5-4 win Blyth travelled to Hensall on Wednesday, Febru ary 21 and swept the series with a 5-3 win. Mike Bromley once again scored Blyth’s first goal as he opened the game scoring with a wrist shot that rang in off the post. Christopher Howson increased the lead to 3-0 as he scored both Blyth goals in the second period. Shawn Hakkers if necessary is scheduled for 9:00 tonight (Wednesday) in Brussels. Last Tuesday the Goderich Sai lors dominated every aspect of assisted on his first goal as Christopher banked a backhand shot off the goalie from near the goal line. Christopher then scored in the final minute of the period with a low shot after Brian McNichol’s pass was tipped by Ryan Chamney to Christopher at the comer of the crease. Hensall finally got on the scoreboard with nine seconds left in the period but Jerrod Button nullified that goal with one of his own in the first minute of the third period. He easily finished off a three-way passing play with line mates Benjie Hakkers and Mike Bromley as he slid the puck into an open net. After Hensall narrowed the lead, Mike Bromley restored Blyth’s three goal lead as he poked in a loose puck in the crease after the goaltender couldn’t handle Benjie Hakker’s shot. Although Hensall scored the final goal of the game Blyth eliminated them with this 5-3 win.
