Council voted 20 - 11 in a recorded vote not to overturn a recommendation of the Executive Committee not to give the grant. The executive committee at its January 19 meeting had defeated one motion to give the grant, then had supported another motion not to give any money. Jack Coleman, deputy-reeve of Stanley township questioned the executive’s recommendation not to give the grant. He noted the county had earlier approved of a $4500 grant to the Southwestern Ontario Travel Association. “Are we saying that tourism is more important than Agriculture?’’ he asked. Allan Gibson, Reeve of Ashfield said that if the county supported the Federation of Agriculture other „ Z* farm groups might also come looking for funding. The Federation had appeared before the January meeting of council asking that council give a grant to help promote its work for agriculture in the county. It said that if the county gave the grant it would not approach local township councils for grants for each town ship.
