Bly th Pee Wees win 1 of 3 in week’s action BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Pee Wees had three exhibition encounters last week as they emerged with one win and two losses. The team travelled to Clifford on February 4 where they snoozed their way to an 8-3 loss. Blyth was never in the game as Clifford built an early 5 - 0 lead by capitalizing on Blyth’s undisciplined play. Marc Bricker finally got Blyth on the board with a second period power play goal with Peter Craig and Tim Lyons assisting. Wilfred Datema and Jerrod Button assisted on Blyth’s second goal as Mike Brom ley made it look easy with a nice rush from centre ice. Blyth closed out the game’s scoring late in the third period as Tim Lyons sent Mike Johnston in alone on a helpless Clifford goaltender. Blyth then hosted Teeswater on February 5 and, although they lost their second game in two days, the play was much improved and an honest effort was evident in this 5-4 set back. After a scoreless opening frame. Teeswater and Blyth lit up the red light in the second period. Mike Bromley tied the game for Blyth less than one minute after Tees water opened the scoring. His slapshot from just inside the blue- line was assisted by Tim Lyons and Henry Bos. After Teeswater took a 2-1 lead Jerrod Button tied the game up late in the period. He tucked the puck in under the crossbar with assists to Mike Bromley and Tim Lyons. Once again Teeswater took the lead, gong ahead 4-2 after five minutes of the third period. Mike Bromley closed the gap to 4-3 with, an unassisted tally as he was left unattended in the opposition zone. Teeswater tallied the eventual game winner on a power play as a Blyth player watched the play from the penalty box. Teeswater had penalty trouble of their own late in the game. Mike Bromley recorded the hat-trick with 30 seconds left in the game on a two-man power play advantage to again bring Blyth to within one. It would be as close as they would get as Teeswater hung on for a 5-4 win. Game number three of the week was played in Clinton on February 10 against the Clinton B team where Blyth ended the week with a 4-2 win. The teams traded goals in the first and second periods before Blyth rallied with two unanswered third period tallies for the victory. After Clinton opened the scoring Mike Bromley evened the score before the first period ended as he finished off a three-way passing Continued on page 38 Business and Professional Directory CHRISTMAS & COUNTRY FLOWERS & GIFTS PHONE S23-4S2O Featuring Xmas Accessories, unique country gifts, wicker and rattan furniture, fresh and silk flowers and arrangements for all occasions.
