PAGE 25. \1 VOR YOUR WEDpjjyG Big dag wrong time to experiment with make-up When the most important day in a young woman’s life arrives, the worst thing she can do is to start experimenting. That note of caution comes from Margot Franssen, president of The Body Shop, a national chain of beauty boutiques. She has seen wedding day disasters resulting from the bride trying to do some thing creative with her hair and makeup for the big day. Makeup expert says that brides often use too much makeup on wedding day when they should aim for natural look. In their efforts to make them selves look ravishing, many brides tend to overdo it, and the results are disappointing, Franssen says. She warns against using face masks and treatments that might trigger skin blotches. Because most brides are emotional wrecks a day or two before W-Day their skin can react adversely even to cosmetic products they have been using for some time. Knowing they’ll be the focal point of photographers, brides often use too much makeup - and it Lighting candle symbolizes unity in married lives Continued from page 24 Just before the exchange of rings, the minister usually makes some statement about the symbo lism of the rings. This statement could be made just as easily by both of you as you slip the rings on each other’s fingers. The trend in the double ring ceremony nowa days seems to be toward a simple and direct ring exchange. The bride and groom may say to each other “I give you this ring as a symbol of my devotion. Wear it to show others that you are touched by my love.” LIGHTING OF THE CANDLE In recent years more and more Christian couples have been includ ing a custom called the lighting of the unity candle in their wedding ceremonies. This always occurs near the end of the service. The bride and groom each take a lighted candle and light a larger candle to symbolize the union of their lives in marriage. shows. Franssen assures that you will still look dramatic without black eyeliner and heavy mascara. Bridal makeup should lean towards softer colors. She offers the following tips for wedding day cosmetics. Apply foundation at least 10 minutes after you’ve put on mois turizer to allow your skin to calm down. Then use a translucent powder on face and lips. Always apply foundation and powder in a downward motion so the tiny facial hairs lay flat. Avoid using eyebrow pencils to fill in the eyebrows. Rather, put brown or black mascara on your eyelash comb and pull it through the brows. This enhances their natural coloring and gives them a nice arch. “Line the eyes with blue liner and really smudge it so it looks soft. After applying eye shadow, finish the eyes with blue mascara, using an eyelash comb so the If you include this element in your ceremony, you might decide to make some statement as hus band and wife about the marriage union which has just been formed. Or, the minister might read some appropriate Scripture, such as Genesis 2:23-24, about “two be coming one,” as you and your mate light the unity candle. DECLARATION OF MARRIAGE This is a formal statement by the minister that the bride and groom are now united as husband and wife. This declaration is often combined with a charge to the couple to work together to build a Christian home. Other brief com ments from the minister about the holiness and permanence of marri age are also appropriate. These, then, are the basic ingre dients that you will find in most contemporary church weddings. (Excerpted from, “Wedding Ceremony Idea Book" by George W. Knight). Franssen suggests applying per fume any place below the waist since it will rise during the day. By the time of the reception, your fragrance will be in full bloom. Since you won’t be carrying a purse on your wedding day, your makeup should be simple to avoid constant touchups. the veil, it may look you remove the veil reception, as many lashes don't clump.” When it comes to blush, it’s better to use a strong colour sparingly than a light colour heav ily. Follow the contour of your cheek along the bone, running your brush from the outside corner of your eye. As for hair style, simplicity is best for the wedding. If your hair is done to suit unnatural if during the brides do. Franssen says brides who bring their own shampoo and conditioner to the salon will avoid surprises if the salon’s conditioner is strong. Ask your hairdresser to use a gel or spray rather than mousse, which doesn’t have as great a holding power. With the trend toward longer hair, bows offer a fashionable option to the more traditional veil. Hair can be pulled back softly with bow, allowing bangs to fall freely. Keep some powder in mom’s handbag or that of a friend to dab on to the bangs if they have a tendency to become oily.
