Belgrave loses big Despite a valiant comeback in the third period of their January 20 game against Zurich the Belgrave Tykes were downed 15 - 4 by the visiting team. The first goal was scored by the opponents during the first period, but Tim Robinson, assisted by Curtis Knight put the Belgrave team on the scoreboard in the second period. Zurich continued their strong offence and it wasn’t until the third period, that Justin Campbell scor­ ed off a pass from Curtis Knight for Belgrave. Two more goals follow­ ed. Tim Robinson with an assist from Justin Campbell brought the Belgrave score to three and de­ fenceman Craig Marks narrowed the gap scoring late in the third period. All but two of the goals scored against first-time goalie Justin Black were rebounds. On January 27 the Tykes faced strong opposition from Goderich. Second place Bulls begin 1990 playoffs The Brussels Bulls, after a solid second place finish in their first season of Jr. C Hockey begin the 1990 playoffs against the Walker­ ton Black Hawks. Game one, in the best of five series, was played last night (Tues­ day) in Brussels with Game 2 in Walkerton at 8:00. The Bulls return home for Game 3 Friday night at 9 p.m. and if necessary travel to Walkerton Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. for Game 4. The fifth and Belgrave Atoms enjoy three game winning streak The Belgrave Atoms enjoyed a three game winning streak this week as they trounced visiting teams from Mitchell, Seaforth and Goderich. On January 31 the Atoms played host to Mitchell and defeated them by a score of 15 - 0. Ryan Cook opened the scoring with an assist by Ryan Moffatt. Corey Moran and Brent Robinson scored the next two goals during the first period. Brent Robinson started the se­ cond period off then Brian Marks scored from Kirk Kreiger. Corey Moran brought the score up to seven, scoring two goals with Brian to Zurich The onslaught was heavy as Kyle Anderson, in net for the first time, tried to fend off the shots. Goderich scored 10 goals during the first period, 10 in the second period, and three in the third defeating Belgrave 23 - 0. On February 3, Belgrave upset the visiting Brussels team by a score of nine to four. Brussels opened the scoring in the first period sliding one past Curtis Knight, who was in net for the first time. Tim Robinson came back just a few minutes later to tie things up then Brussels jumped back into the lead. Tim Robinson scored the next three goals assisted by Craig Marks on the first two and Garett Knight on the third. Brussels got back in the action scoring the first goal of the second period, but the Belgrave team quickly widened the gap thanks to the efforts of Tim Robinson who got the remainder of the goals with assists by Craig Marks and Justin Black. deciding game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 9:00 in Brussels. The winner of this series advances to meet the winner of Mount Forest vs. Goderich. In a third series Grand Valley and Hanover meet with the winner going directly to the league final. In regular season play Brussels had five wins and a tie against the Blackhawks. The games were high scoring with the two clubs combin­ ing for 80 goals scored in the six games played. Marks assisting with the second goal. Brian Marks came back in the third period to score off Kirk Kreiger then Belgrave really came on strong scoring seven more goals before the period ended. Dave Piluke got the second goal of the final period then Brian Marks scored his second goal this time assisted by Dan Gusso. Then Brent Robinson, with an assist by Ryan Cook, scored, followed by another from Brian Marks, who then came back to assist Tom Pfeiffer.
