Crusaders defeat Milverton 5-3, busy week ahead if " Last Saturday night saw the Crusaders back in action as they played host to the Milverton 4 Wheel Drives. Brussels opened the scoring just 33 seconds when Kevin McArter deflected in a pass from Tim Fritz with Brian Campbell drawing the other assist on the play. Milverton tied the score up 10 minutes later when Roger Carter scored on a set up by Mike Chapman and Terry Pugh. The Crusaders regained the lead seven minutes later when Mike Watson and Rob Cardiff combined to set up Fritz for the score. Dave Stephenson increased the lead one minute later with Ken Cousins and Paul Robinson drawing assists on the play. The first period ended the Crusaders leading 3-1. Milverton scored the only goal of the second period when Murray Dewer scored an unassisted goal with just over three minutes left in the period. The Crusaders held on to a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. There were four minutes gone in the third period when Paul Robin­ son scored, to give Brussels a two-goal lead again with Cousins and Ftiz drawing the assists on the play. Milverton didn’t quit as they once again cut the lead by one when Roger Carter got his second of the game with an assist going to Dave Schmidt. Kevin Deitner then finished off the scoring for the night with Cousins and Kevin McArter drawing assists on the play making the final score 5 - 3 for the Crusaders. The Crusaders will play three games this wekeend. Friday night they travel to Seaforth for an 8:30 game, then Saturday they play host to Arthur with game time being 8 p.m. Then Sunday they will travel to Grand Valley for a 7:30 start. Blyth Tykes score 8-3 victory over Zurich Oops! Keeping track of the puck isn’t always easy during the fast action of a Crusaders game and for a brief instant it seems Ken Higgins was passing the puck at Saturday night’s game against the Milverton 4-Wheel Drives. Brussels Atoms lose first game Three overtime goals gave Howick atoms a 5-3 win over Brussels in the first game of their WOAA playoff series Friday in Brussels. Brussels had taken a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Andrew Exel from Josh Beuermann and Chad McCallum from Steve Mach- an and Scott Clarkson. But Howick shut down the home team’s scoring the rest of the way through regulation time and came back with one goal in the second and one in the third to tie the score. In overtime, Howick scored two goals before Jeff Lewington scored from Andrew Exel to pull Brussels to within a goal with 1:53 left in the 10-minute overtime period. But Howick ended the suspense by coming back 41 seconds later to widen the gap to two goals again. The Blyth Tykes kept on their winning ways on Saturday as they visited Zurich and returned home with an 8 - 3 victory. Bltyh started out strong again and jumped into a 3-0 lead when Dean Wilson and Aaron Bakker teamed up for the first goal. Then Matt Anderson with the help of Dean made it 2-0, Blyth’s third goal was a solo effort by Graham Worsell when he broke in all alone from the red line. Blyth then seemed to fall asleep as Zurich got their goals all on breaks from the centre line, to tie the game at 3-3. The Blyth boys returned from their rest at 3:44 of the second period when Nathan Shannon scor­ ed from Matt Anderson, and Ross Clark. Jeremy VanAmersfoort got two quick ones only 16 seconds apart the first on a pass from Matt Anderson the second unassisted. Matt Anderson got his second of the game from Jeremy at 8:16 of the third period. Aaron Bakker then ended the scoring at 7:51 assisted by Matt, giving Blyth an 8 - 3 win. EASY COME - EASY GO BLYTH - 523-4792 OR BRUSSELS - 887-9114 Bulls end season with big win The Brussels Bulls finished the 1989-90 regular season on a winn­ ing note with a 10-3 win over the visiting Grand Valiey Harvesters Sunday afternoon. The win gives the Bulls a 20-8-2 win loss record in their first season of Junior “C” hockey including a 13-1-1 home ice record, the best in the league. Two goals by Steve Fritz gave the Bulls an early lead before the Valley notched their first with 25 seconds left in the opening period. Brussels added three unanswer­ ed goals in the second period by Marty Rutledge, Corey McKee and Mike Bettles for a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes. Excellent penalty-killing allowed the Bulls to nulify two five-minute major penalties called minutes apart early in the period. Andrew Weber, Steve Vanden- dool and Jason Kraemer upped the lead to 8-1 early in the third before Grand Valley scored twice in 17 seconds against a relaxed Bulls club. Vandendool, with his second of the period and Ron Strome completed the scoring with Jeff Roy making 17 stops for the 10-3 win. The Bulls, with a slim lead atop the Western Jr. C standings now sit for a week while the remainder of the teams play out their sche­ dule. The Bulls are hoping to open the playoffs at home on Tuesday, Feb. 6 against as yet an unknown opponent. Saturday night in Goderich Mar­ ty Rutledge was honored with the leading scorer and Most Valuable Player trophies at the league banquet. Marty, in his final year of junior hockey finished the regular season with 90 points including a league leading 55 goals. Heart Answers H WHAT ARE HEART MURMURS?
