Phone 523-4360 Poetry reading opens Cheerio Club meeting Debbie Craig Jr. Farmer Queen The January meeting of the Cheerio Club was held on Wednes­ day afternoon, January 24 at the home of Edythe Beacom. The meeting began at 2 o’clock as Beth Knox opened with a poem “Thoughts for the coming year.” Minutes of the December meeting were given. Roll call was answered with a current event. All 10 members were present. Thank you’s were received from the Sunday School and Family and Londesboro United Church holds hymn sing Sunday Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, January 28 were Doug and Florence Snell. Ushers were Rick Konarski, John Hoggart, Allan Bosman and Don MacGregor. Sermon topic was “Blessed are They”, Part two of three. Bible Study and Prayer Group meets Friday, February 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Snihurs. The annual Congregational meeting will be held January 29 at 8 p.m. Junior Youth Group meets on Wednesday, January 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is Children’s Services for recent don­ ations. Draw money was collected. The draw was donated by Clara Riley and won by Edythe Beacom. Collection was taken up. Edythe gave two readings “Harold Knew Best” and “A Bus Driver’s Prayer”. She also had some rid­ dles. Beth read about “Food”. Cards were played. Lunch was served by Beth Knox and Edythe Beacom. $1.00. The next board meeting is on Monday, February 5 at 8 p.m. Next Sunday, February 4 will be Hymn-sing and Communion. 16 present at shuffleboard Shuffleboard was held at Hullett Central School on Wednesday evening, January 24. Sixteen peo­ ple were present. High lady was Geraldine Dale; high man, Lome Hunking. The Huron County Junior Farm­ ers held their annual banquet last Saturday evening in Wingham. The 1990 Executive is: Presi­ dent, Anne Alton, Wingham; Vice- President, Ross McIntosh, RR 4, Seaforth; Secretary, Lisa Ramme- loo, Blyth; Treasurer, Linda Axt- mann, Wingham; Public Relations Officer, Stacey Bean, Goderich; Agricultural Contact Person, Rick Fowler, Seaforth; Ass’t. Agricul­ Grey appoints members to Hall Bd Grey Township held its regular meeting on January 22, 1990 and passed by-laws appointing the members of the Cranbrook Com­ munity Centre Board, the Ethel Community Centre Board and the Moncrieff Community Hall Board. Appointed to the Cranbrook Hall Board were: Jack Knight, Eleanor Stevenson, Gord Mitchell, Lois Hart, Allan Fretz, Harold Bragg, Helen Cullen and Graeme Mac­ Donald. Appointed to the Ethel Board were: Margaret McMahon, Brenda Boyer, Dorothy Dilworth, Bill Dob­ son, Steven Brock, Helen Cullen and Robin Dunbar. Appointed to the Moncrieff Hall Board were Doug Rathwell, Ken Bailie, Dale Smith, Lyle Pettapiece, Adrian Verstoep, Lillian Smith, Ruby Naylor, Robin Dunbar and Dale Newman. Council also authorized grants of tural Contact Person, Fred Hak- kers, RR 5, Goderich; Zone Repre­ sentative, Joan Bergsma, Goder­ ich; Newsletter Editor, Debbie Craig, Blyth; Provincial Director, Sandra Regele, RR 1, Dublin; and Ass’t. dProv. Director, Robert Hunking, RR 1, Auburn. The committee chairpeople are: Culture, Lynda Feagan, Seaforth; Sports, Kathy Roberts, RR 1, Seaforth; and Special Activities, $500 to each of the hall boards for 1990. Other grants authorized by Council included $500 to the Brus­ sels and Grey Industrial Committee and $100 to the Wingham and District Community Living Associ- tion. Chief Building Official Eugene McAdam, presented the 1989 building report to Council. Fifty - seven permits were issued in 1989, comprised of 28 residential per­ mits, 21 farm-related permits, two commercial permits and six demoli­ tion permits for a total net value of $2,064,000. While the total permits declined from the 1988 total of 65 permits, the net value of the permits increased by over half a million dollars. In other business, Murray Fisch­ er was appointed as a Grey Township representative to the Brussels, Morris and Grey Board of Paul Pentlanu, KK o, Goderich. Debbie Craig of RR 2, Blyth and Rick Fowler of Seaforth were crowned 1990 Junior Farmer King and Queen by last year’s winners: Warren Wray and Laurie Pentland. Miss Craig also received the Presi­ dent’s Award for Outstanding First Year Member. The Clinton and District Junior Farmers received the Huron Coun­ ty Federation of Agriculture Com­ munity Betterment Award. Recreation Management. He is wished a speedy recovery by the community. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Clare Vincent and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Vincent on the passing of their sister. The sympathy of the community is extended to Bob and Marsha Szusz on the passing of Marsha’s grandmother, the late Rena Watt of Blyth. Euchre results There were nine tables of euchre at the Hall on Friday evening, January 26. High lady was Dorothy Daer, Blyth; ladies’ lone hands, Alice Buchanan; ladies’ low, Hazel Reid; men’s high, Josephine MacGregor, Clinton (playing as a man); men’s lone hands, Glen Carter; men’s low, Ella Jewitt, Clinton (playing as a man). The next euchre is on Friday, February 9.
