Festival Singers celebrate music
of Scotland at Clinton Ceilidh
BY BRIAN HAT,I,
FARM MANAGEMENT
SPECIALIST FOR
HURON COUNTY
The Blyth Festival Singers cele
brate the wonderful music of
Scotland, dancing and its famed
poet - Robbie Burns, on Saturday,
February 17 at 8 p.m. at the Clinton
Town Hall.
A Ceilidh, is the gaelic word for a
social gathering or as some natives
say, “a hell of a time with a devil of
a bunch”. This fun-filled variety
night features the surprising tal
ents of the 40-voice choir that is
drawn from Auburn, Belgrave,
Belmore, Blyth, Brussels, Clinton,
Exeter, Goderich, London, Luck
now, Seaforth, Stratford and Wing
ham. A buffet dinner following the
concert is provided in the ticket
price of $12. For those who have
never tried the Scottish delicacy,
“haggis”, this is your chance as
the choir ushers in the haggis in a
special ceremony. But besides
haggis, there’s lots of food after the
show for everyone. Tickets are on
sale now at the Blyth Festival Box
Office, at Les Ciseaux in Clinton
and through the Blyth Festival
Singers in your area.
The Blyth Festival Singers’
Ceilidh, (pronounced “Kay-lee”)
will include dancers, exquisite
bagpipe offerings by Glenn Mc
Gregor, storytelling, singing and
many, many surprises. Master of
Ceremonies, Rob Bundy along with
unpredictable and talented choir
director, Angus Sinclair will enter
tain you. Last year’s Ceilidh audi
ence will remember the rollicking
songs that Angus Sinclair led with
his “Scottish” accordian and the
country dancing that many people
from the audience participated in
for the first time under the direc
tion of Mary Hearn. Beautiful
Scottish ballads and traditional
melodies will also be performed for
your enjoyment...and if you know
the music, you can sing along.
For more information and tick
ets, call the Blyth Festival Box
Office at (519) 523-9300/9225.

Huron County remains the se
cond highest producer of hogs in
Ontario but both production and
number of producers dropped
sharply in 1989, Ron Douglas, Zone
Director for the Ontario Pork
Producers Marketing Board told
the annual meeting of the Huron
County Pork Producers Wednesday
in Blyth.
Last year 1233 Huron producers
shipped 548,098 hogs. That was a
drop, however, of 14,246 hogs and
a drop in total producers of 174
from 1988. Those signs, Mr. Doug
las said, are quite comparable to
other counties.
