Blyth Pee Wees bounce back from big loss, beat Seaforth
BY RUSTY BLADES
The Blyth Pee Wees had a full
slate of games last week as they
played four games in five days.
The week had a disastrous start
as Clinton blew the locals right out
of the pond on Monday, January 15
with a convincing 13-1 wipe out.
The only mark on an otherwise
perfect Clinton slate was provided
by Brian McNichol early in the

The goaltender for the Parr Line team gets in the way of a shot from a Winthrop player during
action at the annual Blyth Broomball tournament on the weekend. He couldn’t stop enough of
the shots, however as Winthrop went on for a 3-0 consolation round championship win. In the
other consolation final, 8th Line-Skidz scored a 3-2 overtime win.

Blyth Tykes win 10th game of season
The Blyth Tykes were in Clinton
on Saturday to play an afternoon
game.
Blyth started the scoring at 12:13
of the first when Matt Anderson
got his first of three assisted by
Bryce Toll. Bryce then replied with
one of his own from Nathan
Shannon and Tyler Stewart when
he broke in alone and scored
through the pads of the Clinton
third period as he broke the goose
egg with a slick backhand shot to
the top corner after a set up from
Tim Lyons.
With this game behind them the
team travelled to Seaforth on
Tuesday, January 16 and put their
game back in order with a 6-1 win.
It only took 15 seconds to break the
ice as Jerrod Button sent Mike
goaltender. Matt Anderson got his
second goal at 5:14 of the second
period from Rick VanSteelandt
after a lot of digging in front of the
Clinton net. David Ansley then
added Blyth's next goal from Rick
VanSteelandt to give Blyth a 4-0
lead.
Clinton got their only go.al at 5:08
of the second when they broke in
Bromley in alone at the Seaforth
blueline and Mike made no mis
take. The twosome then combined
for the winner early in the second
period. Mike Bromley took Jerrod
Button’s pass behind the Seaforth
goal and surprised the netminder
with a wrap-around shot. Brian
McNichol upped the lead to 3-0 late
in the period as he banked the
powerplay snot off the post with
alone on the Blyth net. The boys
netted three more in the third,
Tyler Stewart from David Ansley,
Jeremy VanAmersfoort from Nath
an Shannon and Matt Anderson
with his third from Tyler Stewart.
This was Blyth’s 10th win of the
season along with three losses and
a tie. The tykes next game is Sat.,
Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. in Zurich.
assists to Tim Lyons and Tim
Cowan.
Although Seaforth cut the lead to
3-1 early in the third Blyth re
sponded with strong play the rest
of the way. Jonathan Collins scored
a text-book, short-handed effort to
put Blyth ahead 4-1. Ryan Cham-
ney won the face-off in the Seaforth
zone and passed back to the point
where Collins’ teed up a nice low
drive. Three minutes later Henry
Bos scored Blyth’s second power
play goal of the game thanks to the
playmaking of Mike Bromley and
Mike Johnston.
Finally, with one minute left in
the game, Mike Bromley recorded
the hat-trick as he deked around
the fallen goalie after pouncing on
the rebound of Jerrod Button’s
shot.
With their game back in order
with this win they then hosted
Wingham in the fog on Wednes
day, January 18 and recorded their
second in as many days, this time
by a 5 - 1 count.
Jerrod Button opened the score
in the final minute of the first
period with a shot along the ice
after a pass from Mike Bromley.
Tim Cowan and Ryan Chamney set
up Brian McNichol’s winner early
in the second as Brian flipped the
puck into the net as he was being
hooked from behind. After Wing
ham closed the score to 2-1, Jerrod
Button fooled the goalie with a nifty
move from close in on a set up from
Tim Lyons. A pretty three-way
passing play in the final minute of
period two gave Blyth a 4-1 lead.
Ryan Chamney cashed in on the
hard work of linemates Marc
Bricker and Brian McNichol with a
tip in at the crease. Jerrod Button
completed the scoring in the third
period as he recorded the hat-trick
with assists to Mike Bromley and
Tim Lyons.
The Pee Wees completed their
hockey workload for the week in
Brussels on Friday, January 20.

Emotions ran high as Brussels
squeaked past Blyth 6-5, to con
clude a see-saw battle from start to
finish. The teams finished in a 1-1
fust period draw as Tim Lyons tied
the game with 34 seconds left as he
redirected Christopher Howson’s
shot. Ryan Chamney also earned
an assist on the goal. Ryan Cham
ney gave Blyth a brief 2-1 lead
midway through the second frame
as he jumped on a loose puck in a
scramble at the crease. Christopher
Howson and Tim Lyons’ forecheck
ing resulted in important assists on
the goal.
The Brussels’ offence then took
over as they scored three late
unanswered goals^to stake them to
a 4-2 lead to start the third period.
However, Blyth came out fired up
to deadlock the contest at 4-4
before the third period was half
over. /
Ryan Chamney brought Blyth to
within one goal as he finished off a
two on one break with Brian
McNichol. Mike Bromley scored a
power-play goal to tie the game as
he tipped in Jerrod Button’s shot
with Benjie Hakkers also in on the
scoring play.
Next it was Brussels’ turn to take
the lead as they scored two goals to
once again put them in the driver’s
seat. Blyth closed the gap to 6-5
with just over two minutes left in
the game as Tim Lyons notched his
second goal of the game as he
steered Mike Bromley’s pass from
the corner past the Brussels’
goalkeeper.
Although Blyth pulled their goa
lie in the final minute they couldn’t
mount an attack as Brussels hung
on for a 6-5 win, to hand Blyth their
second loss of the season in regular
schedule play.
