Patricia Carrier in her presi dent’s remarks extended to all New Year’s greetings. She remarked on the start of a new decade of hospital work. With changes in the hospital systems, volunteer work ers are important as costs to hire are prohibitive. Patricia also asked volunteers to document their volun teer hours. A pleasant duty performed by President Patricia was to present a silver cup to Drew Taylor, the Clinton Hospital’s first New Year’s baby. The proud parents, Jim and Crystal Taylor, live near Auburn. A letter from Mr. A. H. Jewson, chairman, Board of Trustees of the hospital was read thanking the Auxilians for their contribution towards the Gastroscope. Margaret Coventry, Archives chairman gave some interesting data on the beginning of what is now the Auxiliary to the C.P.H. First formed about 1919 when spirited women of the Women’s Patriotic Society of Clinton and vicinity responded to an appeal for a general hospital. With the assis tance of an Advisory Committee these ladies operated a hospital at the northwest corner of Victoria and Cutter Streets. In 1923 larger premises were needed. Major Mal colm McTaggart presented the McTaggart home on Shipley Street for this purpose. The ladies operat ed the hospital from 1924 to 1936 when a Board of Directors of local men was appointed to manage the hospital. The women responded by forming the Clinton Community Hospital and Association in 1937. This evolved into the present Auxiliary to the C.P.H. which is open to men and women volun teers. It is interesting to note the purpose has never changed. “Dir ect service to patients, fundraising and promotion of good Public Relations’’. Doreen Nogalo reported that December sales in the gift shop were above average. Knitted mitts size 8-12 would be appreciated. A lengthy discussion took place about our annual fundraising “van ishing card party’’ held in February at the Ontario Street United Church, Clinton. A new format is being considered as well as new name “Card Cavalcade’’. A new location is being looked at in place of holding one party in Clinton, card parties will be held in several locations, eg. Clinton, Brucefield, Blyth, Varna, Bayfield, Londesboro, etc. Convenors in each location will arrange for a card party to be held during the week of February 19 - 24. Admission will remain the same $2 per person and refreshments will be served. Monies raised will go towards the $15,000 pledged to the hospital towards new X-ray equipment. The Auxiliary has made its pledge for over a two-year period. Two reminders - annual reports from Chairman of Committees are to be prepared in triplicate for the April meeting. Following the March meeting there will be a luncheon for teen volunteers and executive members. The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 5 at 10 a.m. CALL CITIZEN CLASSIFIED AT 523-4792 OR 887-9114 24 HOUR^S A DAY
