Down for the count
Linesmen attempt to break up this skirmish between Bulls player Jamie Gibbings and a member of
the visiting Walkerton Blackhawks during the exciting third period of Sunday’s home game. It was a
fight to the finish as the Bulls pulled forward in the last few minutes, defeating the Blackhawks 10-9.

Blyth PeeWees blank Zurich
BY RUSTY BLADES
The Blyth Pee Wees only had
one game scheduled last week as
they travelled to Zurich and com
pletely dominated in a 4-0 white
wash.
Ryan Chamney scored the only
goal Blyth would need midway
through the first period as his shot
from the face-off circle eluded the
fiesty Zurich puck stopper. Wilfred
Datema and Henry Bos created this
scoring opportunity with some fine
heads-up passing.
Christopher Howson upped the
count to 2-0 with a second period
powerplay goal as he cashed in the
rebound of Henry Bos’s blue-line
cannon. Marc Bricker added some
icing to the cake late in the third
frame as he took Jonathan Collins’
clearing pass, skated down the
right wing boards, and fired a
short-handed rocket to the far
corner of the net.
their schedule Brussels has a
record of 18 wins - 8 losses - 2 ties,
good enough for a two point lead
atop the Western Jr. C league.
Unfortunately the Hanover Barons
have four games in hand including
a Bulls-Barons match Friday night
Henry Bos picked up his third
assist of the game with one second
left as he dug out Jerrod Button’s
wide shot from behind the net and
set up Ryan Chamney in the slot,
who sealed the 4-0 win with a
back-hand shot.
Although Blyth carried the play
throughout thfe game, goaltenders
Michael deJong and Chris Lee
proved their net worth with some
timely saves to preserve the shut
out. Thanks to Pee Wee coach Gary
Courtney who organized a very
successful bus trip to Kitchener on
January 7. The boys saw a very
entertaining hockey game as the
Junior ‘A’ Kitchener Rangers
shaded the London Knights 9-7 in a
wild shoot-out before a near capa
city crowd.
