Morris Twp. council buys new roadside mower There was a lengthy discussion concerning the land purchase pro­ posal of Brussels Agricultural Soci­ ety at the December 19 meeting of Morris Council. It was decided that a letter should be forwarded to the Society requesting that a representative BlythPee Wees set to swing back into action BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Pee Wee’s have had a light schedule over the holiday season but are now getting back to some serious action as they gear for the play-offs. On December 11 Jerrod Button and Mike Bromley led Blyth past Elma Logan 7 - 6. Button notched the hat-trick and added two assists while Bromley had a pair of goals as well as two assists. Christopher Howson picked up a goaf and an assist and Brian McNichol added a single tally. Additional assists were credited to Benjie Hakkers and Ryan Chamney. One week later on December 18, Zurich skated into town but left on the wrong end of a 9-3 drubbing. Once again Jerrod Button dented the twine three times and also delivered some punishing checks. Not to be outdone, Mike Bromley equalled Jerrod’s goal output, in­ cluding a short-handed effort, Wilful Damage: McKillop Town­ ship between May 23 and 30, 1989. Break Enter and Theft, Mt. Carmel, Ontario on April 2, 1989 between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. thieves broke into the Country Corners Rentals and stole cash and tools worth $4,000. With a long rest over the holidays the team will no doubt recharge their batter­ ies for the second half of the season. QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Former Vancouver Canucks general mana­ ger Harry Neale, after goaltender Curt Ridley injured both knees on one play: “What Ridley did was truly remarkable but the record is still three.” Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week TRAIL OF STOLEN VEHICLES On January 2, 1990 a 1984 green coloured Pontiac, licence OCT-849 was stolen from the Town of Clinton, driven to the 11th Cone, of Goderich Township where it was left with the engine running at the end of the driveway to a residence where a 1980 Ford F-10 pickup, red coloured, licence MA8-588 was stolen. The thieves then drove the stolen truck to the Village of Bayfield where it was recovered with the engine running on Main Street. It is believed that the thieves then stole a 1984 Chevrolet station wagon, brown, licence 214-ALC which was driven to the area of the Paul Bunyan Camp, South of Bayfield where it was driven into the ditch. The thieves then left the area in a 1981 Toyota 4-wheel drive truck, blue and white bearing licence DC7-524. The Toyota truck has yet to be recovered. Remember to remove the keys and your credit card from your vehicles and it will make thefts such as these less likely to occur. Remember crime doesn’t pay Crime Stoppers does. Michie presented the quotes from Lobb and Sons Ltd. in Clinton and McGavin Farm Equipment in Wal­ ton regarding the purchase of a roadside mower. Council accepted the quote of $4,752 from Mc- Gavings. Murray Musty attended on be­ half of the Blyth Community Centre to discuss the past year’s work and also to bring to Council’s attention that a new flooder for the Centre would be required. Council was notified that the county will waive the payment of fees for a subdivision plan which has been applied for before the end of December, 1989. The VanCamp proposal on the south end of Belgrave would fall under this jurisdiction if it was submitted before year end. It was agreed that billing for repair to the Nichol Municipal Drain should be sent to Brussels Cemetery for payment as it was responsible for the damage. Council accepted the proposal of Keith Adams to proceed with the road closure of the land adajeent to Lot 49 on condition of approval from Turnberry township. If ap­ proval is received Council authoriz­ ed Clerk Nancy Michie to proceed with closure with Mr. Adams being responsible for any costs involved. If an area is not designated for smoking then smoking shall occur in that area. Council regretfully accepted the resignation of Henry Devlin from the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre Board. Mr. Devlin will receive a letter of thanks for his work on the board.
