Obituaries MARGARET ELIZABETH RUTLEDGE A long-time resident of Brussels, Margaret (Maggie) Elizabeth Rut­ ledge passed away at Callander Nursing Home on January 4, 1990. She was in her 98th year. Born in East Wawanosh Town­ ship, she married Stanley Rut­ ledge, who predeceased her. Mrs. Rutledge resided at 18 Mill St. and for many years she owned and operated a popular diner in Brus­ sels. She was a member of Melville Presbyterian Church. Left to mourn her passing are several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rutledge rested at Betts Funeral Home in Brussels until January 8, at 2 p.m. when services were held. Rev. Carolyn McAvoy officiated. Spring interment will take place at Brussels Cemetery. ANDREW KIRKCONNELL A former resident of Auburn and Brussels died December 30, 1989 at Seaforth Manor in Seaforth. He was 87 years of age. He was born in Grey Township on August 27, 1902. He is survived by three daugh­ ters: Jean, Mrs. Louis Blake of Brussels; Mary Park, of Florida; Dianne Kirkconnell of Calgary; and one son, Harold and his wife Gloria, RR 2, Goderich. He is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife in 1980 as well as six sisters and three brothers. The funeral service was held January 1, 1990 from the Tasker Chapel of the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Home in Blyth. Rev. Bonnie Cole-Arnal officiated. Inter­ ment will be in Hope Chapel Cemetery, Hullett Township. ROBERT DAVID Mr. Robert David of RR 1, Gorrie died January 2, 1990 at Wingham and District Hospital. He was 65 years of age. Born in Lachine, Quebec, Mr. David was a retired dairy farmer and a member of Fordwich United Church. He is the beloved son of Bertha David of Palmerston and the late Ambrose David. He is survived by his brothers, Bill David of Huntsville, Ernie David of Neustadt and Edward David of Fordwich, and sisters, Lillian Brooks of British Columbia, Flor­ ence Maxwell of Bloomingdale, Dorothy Hackit of Waterloo, Ivy Monk of Durham and Elsie Willard of Rodney. Besides his father, Mr. David was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Harold. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on January 4, at the Betts Funeral Home in Gorrie. Rev. Donald Beck officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Don King, Jim Greer, Bart Scherpenzeel, Russell Ruttan, Leo Ruttan and Jack Mann. Interment is at Gorrie Cemetery. ELIZABETH L. MACHAN Elizabeth L. Machan of Blyth died at Clinton Public Hospital on January 2, 1990. She was 94. Mrs. Machan was born in Aus­ ten, Michigan and was the daugh­ ter of the late Charles B. Riehl and the late Lydia Fair. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred J. Machan. Mrs. Machan belonged to Trinity Anglican Church in Blyth and was a member of Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by a daughter-in- law, Selena Machan, seven grand­ children, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaugh­ ter. Mrs. Machan was the beloved mother of Ethel Gibbons, May Machan, and Charles, who all predeceased her. Three sisters, Carrie Haggitt, Mary Sieling and Sofie Giousher, and three brothers, Don, Albert and George Riehl, predeceased her also. A special Legion Ladies Auxili­ ary service was held on Thursday, January 4. The regular funeral service was conducted by Rev. David Fuller at Trinity Anglican Church in Blyth the following afternoon at 2 p.m. Pallbearers were: Robert Machan, Don Mach­ an, Jim Gibbons, Doug Gibbons, Bob Fotheringham, and Bill Glou- sher. Flower bearers were: Ron Walker, Brian Machan, William Fotheringham and Ed Turner. Interment will follow at Blyth Union Cemetery. ROBERT “HARVEY” McMichael A resident of Wroxeter, Robert “Harvey” McMichael died at Wingham and District Hospital on December 30, 1989. Born 85 years ago in Tumberry Township, Mr. McMichael spent many years farming until his retirement. He was affiliated with the Wroxeter United Church and was a member of Forest Lodge #162 AF & AM. Mr. McMichael was the beloved husband of the late Annie Hupfer. Left to mourn his passing are his children, Ronald and his wife Ethel of Wroxeter, Glenn and his wife Phyllis of Turnberry Township, and Shirley and her husband Lloyd Lamont of Culross Township. He will be dearly remembered by his eight grandchildren and two great- grandsons. Mr. McMichael is also survived by one brother Lloyd McMichael of Stroud. He was predeceased by a brother, Morley. Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiated at the service which was held at 2 p.m. on January 2, at Betts Funeral Home in Gorrie. Pallbearers were Barry Mulvey, Bruce Harkness, Murray Lamont, Gary Ballagh, Sandy McAllister, and David Mc­ Michael. Interment will be in Wroxeter Cemetery. VIOLA E. STONEHOUSE Viola E. Stonehouse of 3 South­ gate St. in London passed away at her home on Saturday, December 23, 1989. She was 87. The former Viola Blackwell was born in Kincardine Township in the County of Bruce. She married Norman Stonehouse, who prede­ ceased her in 1975. In her early years, Mrs. Stonehouse was em­ ployed as a teacher. She was a member of Calvary United Church in London and was particularly active in church work. Also left to mourn her passing are seven grandchildren and six great­ grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Mrs. Agnes Walker of Goderich, and her brother-in-law, Lewis Stonehouse and his wife, Helen of Belgrave. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 28 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home in London. Reverend Elli­ ston Bridger was assisted at the service by Reverend Don Haris- ford. Spring interment will be at Brandon Cemetery in Belgrave.
