The Blyth team shared the scoring among several lines in taking the convincing win. Belgrave Atoms bring home winning record from long road schedule Blyth Novices swamp Wingham team 9-1 After a long series of games on the road Belgrave Atoms finally got to play a home game Saturday and defeated Bayfield 8-5. Bayfield took an early lead but three unanswered goals gave Bel­ grave the lead to stay before the end of the period. Brent Robinson scored from Kirk Krieger, then Kirk Kreiger scored from Brent Robinson. Brian Marks scored from Eugene Fenton and Corey Moran to end the first period scoring. In the second period Ryan Cook scored the lone Belgrave goal with Corey Moran and Jeremy Campbell getting the assists. Belgrave scored four times in the final period. Eugene Fenton scored from Don Gusso and Brian Marks, then scored again from Brian Marks and Wayne Fenton. Next it was Wayne Fenton’s turn, scoring from Brian Marks. Brent Robinson closed out the scoring. In the previous two weeks the team had played five games away from hom^. winning three, losing one and tying one. On December 9 the team played to a 1-1 tie with Huron Park with Dan Gusso tying the game in the second period with his unassisted goal. December 13 the team suffered its only defeat of the stretch going down by a 3-1 count to Hensall. Brent Robinson scored from Corey Moran and Wayne Fenton in the second period but Hensall had three second period goals of their Going in Karen Bromley slips a shot past the Forest goaltender in a ringette game in Blyth Sunday. Forest went on to win the game 8-4. CMl NOW own. December 16 the team brought home an 8-3 victory over Clinton. Brent Robinson started the scoring with a goal from Dan Gusso and Corey Moran got the other first period goal, also assisted by Dan Gusso. The teams traded goals in the second period with Corey Moran’s unassisted goal preserving Bel­ grave’s two-goal lead. In the third outscored the home team 5-2. Brent Robinson scored an unassist­ ed goal then Dan Gusso scored from Wayne Fenton. Corey Moran scored from Jeremy Campbell then Brent Robinson scored an unassist­ ed goal. With 1:38 left, Eugene Fenton closed out Belgrave’s scor­ ing with a goal from Corev Moran. December 23 the team took home an early Christmas present by defeating Blyth 6-2. Blyth scored first but Dan Gusso scored two unassisted goals to give Bel­ grave the lead at the end of the first period. Belgrave put the game away with four unanswered goals in the second period before Blyth got one goal back in the third. Wayne Fenton led the way with an unassisted goal before Brent Robinson got his first of two goals sandwiching one by Corey Moran. Dec. 29 the team rang the old year out in a superb manner with a 6-0 shut-out over Goderich. Brent Robinson scored an unassisted goal in the first period. In the second Eugene Fenton scored from Brian Marks and Wayne Fenton then Corey Moran scored an unassisted goal. In the third, Brent Robinson scored an unassisted goal then Corey Moran scored two goals, the first unassisted and the second assisted by Dave Piluke. Belgrave Tykes split past week’s games Belgrave Tykes split a pair of home games last week, defeating Brussels but losing to Clinton. On December 30 Belgrave de­ feated Brussels 6-1. Tim Robinson got Belgrave off to a good start with an early goal. Brussels drew even at the end of the first period but Belgrave scored once in the second and four times in the third for the win. Craig Marks scored from Justin Campbell in the second, then in the third it was Tim Robinson scoring three in a row, assisted by Craig Marks on the first, Justin Campbell on the second and Curtis Knight on the third. Justin Campbell finished off the scoring from Craig Marks. On Saturday, January 6, Bel­ grave hosted Clinton and took a 16-2 dubbing. Clinton scored three times in the first four minutes before Belgrave The Blyth Novice A hockey team started their busy week last Thurs­ day, Jan. 4 by out-skating and out-scoring the Wingham team by the score of 9 to 1. Mike Ansley, filling in for a ill Michael Haggitt on the forward line, got Blyth off to a fast start blasting one over the goalie’s shoulder early in the game set up by Jeff Johnston. Blyth scored two goals near the end of the first period making the score 3 - 0. Amanda Anderson scored one, timing a goal-mouth pass from Darryl Bromley, and Michael Courtney finishing off a three-way passing play from linemates Darryl Bromley and Amanda Anderson. Blyth controlled the second period but only scored one goal with Jeff Cowan burying the puck on an unassisted effort making the score 4-0. Blyth came out stronger in the third period and outscored Wing­ ham 5 goals to one. Michael Courtney scored his second goal set up by Jeff Cowan and Amanda Anderson. Midway in the third Michael Courtney scored his third goal, this one set up by Jeff Johnston and Amanda Anderson. Second’s later Wingham got on the scoreboard with Peter Irwin steal­ ing the puck and scoring unassist- got on the scoreboard with two goals, 36 seconds apart. Justin Campbell scored from Garrett Knight then scored -again from Jimmy McCracken. Clinton, however, scored three more in the first, two in the second and eight in the third. Craig Marks was kept busy in the Belgrave goal as most of the game was played in the Belgrave end. The team welcomes back Kyle Anderson who has been off with a broken collar bone. Blyth’s eighth goal cameBlyth s eighth goal came on a backhand shot by Darry Bromley, assisted by Michael Courtney. Blyth finished the game with Michael Courtney’s fourth goal set up by Darry Bromley and Amanda Anderson. Scott Bromley and Jason Badley did the job between the pipes and took turns playing out. The final score was Blyth 9, Wingham 1. BLYTH 2 - SEAFORTH 3 Blyth travelled to Seaforth the following day and played their best game so far and almost upset one of the top teams in this area. Michael Ansley playing left wing this game, got Blyth started, scoring the only goal in the first period set up by some fore-check­ ing by Jeff Cowan. The second period in this game proved costly as Seaforth rallied for three unan­ swered goals. Blyth fought back in this game and took the play to Seaforth most of the third period. At the nine^ minute mark of the third period,-^ Amanda Anderson finished off a goal-mouth pass from her linemate Darryl Bromley. Blyth pressed the last six minutes of the game trying to get the equalizer and it almost paid off, as Jeff Cowan put a blast off the Seaforth post with seconds left in the game. Scott Bromley had an excellent game in net and the defensive pairings of Jason Badley, Jeff Johnston and Jeremiah Hamm, Chris Carter played a strong game. LISTOWEL 7 - BLYTH 1 The following day this team travelled to Listowel hoping to come up with another big effect, battling another tough team. Blyth fell short in this game looking very tired and flat. Blyth will play this Listowel team this Thursday, Jan. 11 again in an exhibition game and hope to have a better game.
